A new woven wonder. That's how Tieks by Gavrieli described the newest addition to their line of designer ballet flats. Mojave Tieks have hit the market and I've got a closer look at this new shoe and all the information about Tieks sizing and more. Be sure to check out my Mojave Tieks video below for side-by-side comparisons and more,
Are you tired of me talking about Tieks yet? I certainly hope not because I just got the latest release from Tieks and I wanted to give you a closer look at these new fabric flats. As you know, Tieks is well known for their luxurious, supple leather ballet flats, but in recent years they've started coming out with fabric flats too. Not to be confused with the vegan Tieks that are crafted with faux-leather insoles and textiles (which I also like but the sizing is different, so be sure to check out my full post about vegan Tieks), these newer flats have fabric uppers and leather insoles. The first of its kind was the Heritage Plaid Tieks release and now Mojave Tieks have made their way into the Boutiek.
Mojave Tieks come in the signature Tiek Blue box and they'll also have a custom coordinating fabric flower box topper. I seriously love when Tieks does a special flower for the new releases. As a collector, it makes it that much more fun. You can see some of their other custom flowers with Drago Tieks, Raspberry Truffle Tieks, the Neon Tieks, Aquarella Tieks, Sapphire Tieks, Emerald Tieks, and Tortoiseshell Tieks, just to name a few.
It's a little difficult to truly capture the beauty of these woven flats. The detail is hard to capture, but I think you can see them pretty clearly in my Mojave Tieks video (embedded below for your convenience). The shoes are woven with shades of sage green, dusty tan, and pale pink. They're also infused with strands of glistening silver and gold to reflect the desert’s diverse hues and textures.
Mojave Tieks sizing
As I mentioned, these shoes have a fabric upper, but they're quite different than Heritage Plaid. Although soft, there is hardly any give to these. Tieks recommended to size up in these if you're a half size. Since I'm a size 8.5 or 9 in most shoes, I decided to order the size 9 and 10 so I'd have both to compare. While the size 9 did fit, I got the sense that they were going to feel tight as the day wore on. I tried on the size 10 and they were a tad roomier and felt much better. I walked around my bedroom, even jogging a bit, and they stayed on my feet. Granted, I was wearing thin insoles with both pairs, but I could feel like the 10 was the obvious choice. Side note, to see which insoles for Tieks I use, read my full post. Or, if you prefer no-show socks with flats, I've got a post on those too.
Although you can stretch Tieks, I wouldn't recommend trying to stretch these. Reserve stretching for leather shoes only otherwise you can cause breakage and tears in the fibers of the fabric.
I'd say sizing for this particular pair of Tieks is very similar to the vegan line. For the vegan Tieks, I go with a size 10 (except Greystone which is true to size). All of my other Tieks, including classics, patents, and prints are a size 9.
How to care for your Mojave Tieks
As for the care of these shoes, obviously, you can't polish them like you can your classics (check out my post about polishing Tieks for info about that). To protect them from daily wear and tear, I plan to use Scotchgard fabric protector. I've also heard good things about Crep but I haven't tried that yet.
At $195, you'll want to protect your investment. I would apply Scotchgard monthly if you plan to wear these on a very regular basis. I'd also add moleskin to the toe box to prevent excessive wear from your toes on the fabric upper.
To clean the fabric, I'd use a damp cloth to wipe away any dirt and follow up with an upholstery cleaner if needed. I'd caution against using any sort of brush to scrub as this will cause excess wear on the fabric upper.
I really love the color scheme of this shoe and found quite a few things in my closet to pair them with. Since they are a print, I thought it would be best to mainly pair them with solids. Here are a few outfits I put together to style my Mojave Tieks.
A casual outfit with Mojave Tieks. Top and jeans from Gap. Bag: Loius Vuitton Odeon MM.
Little black dress by Monteau and (larger size, not small)
Blush pink shirt, olive jeggings and Loius Vuitton Evora MM handbag in Damier Ebene.
Mustard yellow dress by Monteau and striped Tory Burch large striped pouch.
Side by side photos
A lot of people ask me to take photos of Tieks next to those with similar colors so they can compare and contrast before they decide which pair to purchase. I usually place all of these photos in my post about how to pick the perfect pair of Tieks shoes, but I'm going to include them here too.

Cute shoes! I still need to try Tieks.

Now that you’ve owned the Mojave shoe for several months, how do they compare with the leather version? Do they show signs of wearing any sooner? Any issue with the fabric fraying?
Ruth V. says
Hi Jessica! To be honest, I have such a large rotation that I don't wear them that often. I haven't noticed any issues with mine and haven't seen much about that in the Facebook groups though. Hope that helps!

Thank you for this post and all the side-by-side color comparisons. I bought these a few weeks ago and used your tips of the scotch guard before wearing them. I did have to go up a size (other tieks are 8). I might have been able to wear the 8, but with the liner, a 9 was much comfier. So far no issues and no break-in period.
