If you love Tieks ballet flats AND Game of Thrones, Drago Tieks are probably a dream come true. I've got a closer look at this limited edition style and all the details.
When I first received the email from Tieks by Gavrieli about a mysterious new release, I honestly thought it was an April Fool's joke. Tieks has been known to post a cheeky photo on April's Fools Day to joke about an outlandish-looking new flat so I thought they were doing it again. BUT, a few hours after the email (with a countdown clock included) hit my inbox, there was chatter within the Tieks Anonymous Facebook group. A new release had dropped! Drago Tieks, an homage to Game of Thrones, became available on April 1, 2019, for $265.
If you've seen my super photo-heavy collection of Tieks shoes, you would probably guess that I ordered these new shoes right away. Actually, I ordered them without really even knowing what they fully looked like. The first hint was the dragon egg above and a message about House Gavrieli. That was enough for me!
I won't go into detail about the unboxing experience since I cover that in my full Tieks review, but I'm happy to report that Drago Tieks came with a special jewel-encrusted dragon flower box topper and a special piece of stationary showcasing iridescent Dragos. I just love these special edition box toppers. I keep them on display in my closet because they're just too pretty not to show off.
Drago Tieks are crafted from fine Italian leather. According to Tieks, the leather has been "Dyed black as a raven’s feathers and coated with smooth, foiled scales in shades of steel silver and hints of glacial blue." The result is a scaley, shimmery charcoal grey with bluish undertones. They are really something to behold.
Unlike several of the other prints with similar patterns (like the snakes and others with scales like Wild Copper, Paradise Blue, and Romantic Blush which are made from full grain leather), Drago Tieks are made from specially treated top-grain leather. My pair of Dragos felt perfect, right out of the box. They're super soft and comfortable. Like all Tieks, they feature a non-elasticized, cushioned back to prevent rubbing and blisters and a non-skid rubber soles and cushioned instep.
These flats feel very sturdy and durable. A lot of people ask me what I do to protect my Tieks since they are an investment. For this particular pair, I will likely give them a coat of waterproof spray (you can read my entire post about the best waterproof spray to protect Tieks, leather flats, boots, and bags). I also plan on wearing insoles in these to protect the leather insole (or, if you prefer no-show socks with flats, I've got recommendations for those too).
