Another first from Tieks! As a member of the Tieks Anonymous Facebook group, I was able to purchase a special edition pair of Seafield Check Tieks ballet flats. Here are all the details about the release and the fit.
Members of the Tieks Anonymous Facebook group, a group that is run exclusively by the Tieks brand, got a special, unexpected treat on November 12, 2021. While we were all anticipating the upcoming Black Friday Tieks release, the brand announced that group members would be able to buy a special, never-before-seen print that would only be available to members of the group.
Seafield Check Tieks
The release was for Seafield Check Tieks, a glen check that would be made out of a special two-way stretch fabric. The group's administrator posted a password-protected link within the group and members were able to purchase the ballet flats for $185.
According to the website, this unique pair was inspired by the Countess of Seafield. She introduced what became known as glen check as the signature plaid of her Glen Urquhart Estate in Scotland. Seafield Check weaves black and white fabric threads into the alternating check and houndstooth patterns. As you can see, the new print came with an exclusive black and white Tieks box topper.
Seafield Check Sizing
We were told that the two-way stretch fabric was soft and comfy and would have a more relaxed fit. If you are a half size, Tieks recommended sizing down.
I didn't see that information until after I'd already placed my order so I just hoped that my usual size 9 would fit. Just in case though, I went onto the site to order a size 8. It had already sold out at that time, so I added my name to the waitlist in case a size 8 became available. If you're new to Tieks, check out my full Tieks review for fit and sizing information. In most shoes, I'm an 8.5 or 9 and I'm a size 9 in all of my Tieks, with the exception of some Vegan Tieks and Mojave Tieks.
With all of the mail delays, my new flats didn't arrive for a week (even though they were shipped Priority as usual). The day before they were slated to arrive, I got a call from Tieks saying a size 8 had become available and they wanted to know if I still wanted them. I told the lovely lady who called that my first pair hadn't arrived yet but she said she'd send me the size 8 so I'd have both to compare. Tieks' customer service is the best.
When the size 9 Tieks arrived, I eagerly tried them on but was disappointed in the fit. I needed to size down because they were too roomy and when I walked, the shoe slipped off my heel. As advised by other members of the group, I left Seafield Check unfolded for 24 hours and tried them on again. Although they were a little better, they were still too big. Thankfully, the size 8 Seafield Check Tieks arrived the next day and I was able to compare them side-by-side. The size 8 was much better.
How to adjust the sizing of Tieks
Unlike traditional leather Tieks that will become molded to your foot (check out my post about stretching leather flats if your Tieks are a little tight in width or length), this pair won't have that luxury. If your Seafield Check is a little too roomy, you may consider adding an insole or insert. I use these in all of my Tieks to prevent leather patina but some are thicker than others.
These flats are beautiful and the material is soft and stretchy. I'm probably going to treat them with Scotchguard like I did with my Rouge Tieks.

Congrats on your Seafield Check Tieks and thank you for the background info on what inspired this design. I’m one of a handful of males that belong to Tieks Anonymous and needless to say I’m also one of the males that wears these a cute and comfy adorable ballet flats. I got my regular women’s size and one size down. I ended up staying with my regular womens size. The fit is certainly unlike any other pair of Tieks I own but I love the pattern and that more than makes up for any of the fit issues. Thanks for sharing your reviews of these amazing flats.
