Is anyone else reaching the middle of summer and struggling to keep their kids occupied? We had made a plan for less screen time this summer but I find myself tempted to give in on days when I have work to do. However, we recently put together a new playhouse from Backyard Discovery and the kids have been playing in it every day since, which has been amazing! I've partnered with Backyard Discovery to share one of their playhouses, and I've got a discount that you can stack on top of current sales, too.
We previously had the Aspen Playhouse from Backyard Discovery which was absolutely adorable, but unfortunately, we had some terrible storms last fall with straight-line winds that demolished it. If you can imagine the Wizard of Oz and the entire thing flying into the air, that's what happened. Our kids were devastated! So when I reached out to Backyard Discovery about a new playhouse this year, we were all so excited when they agreed to share the Little Country Workshop with our readers.
Backyard Discovery Little Country Workshop
Backyard Discovery's is just as adorable and quaint as you'd imagine it to be from the name! That said, it is quite a project to put together and comes in a couple of large boxes. My husband spent about 5 hours assembling it one day and needed an extra pair of hands a few times. I would definitely plan for at least a half-day of assembly depending on how many people you have working on it.
This kids' playhouse looks like a rustic barn and everyone who has seen it so far has noted how adorable it is! We live in a very small rural town so it fits the demographic, but even friends who live in large cities have appreciated its charm.
How Big is the Little Country Workshop?
The is a bit taller than our previous playhouse which is great because our kids are getting taller, too! Once assembled, it's 6'1" tall, 6/2" wide, and 3'6" deep. Our kids are six and nine and they can both play and stand inside comfortably.
One of the cutest features of this playhouse is that it comes with a full toolset! You'll get a working drill with an extra bit, a saw, a screwdriver, a hammer, and a wrench with the workshop. My kids love playing with these and pretending to build and work on things. I imagine they'll be an even bigger hit with younger kids!
The tools store right in the workshop itself. There's a prefabricated shelf with holes specifically for each tool! One of my husband's biggest pet peeves is when the kids leave toys out in the yard; that won't happen with this workshop.
This Workshop is Perfect for Open-Ended Play
We have a lot of neighbor kids that come to play, and they love to create games around the Little Country Workshop. Since all four sides are open, it's easy for them to work together and pretend all sorts of storylines. Most recently they'd turned it into a tool store and they came to purchase items through the open windows!
The double doors have double hinges so they can swing in or out which is such a fun feature. If your kids have seen the movie Rango like mine, they probably love that they can pretend they're in a country/western movie!
Another super cute feature of this workshop is the bell! Our kids love to pretend they're calling each other in for dinner after a long day on the farm, but it also makes an adorable non-traditional doorbell.
Backyard Discovery Offers the Best Outdoor Play Equipment
Our kids have spent hours in this workshop with the neighbor kids. The free play options are endless and I know they're going to get a ton of use out of it. This one anchors to the ground on all four corners. I don't have to worry about it being taken out by a big storm! Paired with our amazing swing set from Backyard Discovery, the kids have been playing outside so much more which makes my mama heart happy.
