Customize the look of your dining table with this easy cloth napkins tutorial. We promise, it's super easy and we'll show you exactly how to make cloth napkins in under 5 minutes.
Since I was little, I've loved hosting parties for my friends! In elementary school, I remember inviting my neighborhood girlfriends over to eat snacks on a card table and folding chairs in my garage. In college, I would organize dorm brunches, and since we've had an apartment of our own we've been throwing Murder Mystery dinners, Valentine's parties, and Olympic Opening Ceremonies Celebrations! One of my favorite parts of hosting is making the perfect display for my guests -- hunting down the perfect decor, making the prettiest treats, and putting it all together in a beautiful display. One thing that my kitchen did not have was a beautiful array of cloth napkins. Cloth napkins immediately take your table setting to the next level and they show your guests that you think they are important!
How to make cloth napkins
Honest to goodness, you can make one of these in 5 minutes or less, especially if you start with a layer cake! (A layer cake is a collection of 10" by 10" squares that are usually arranged by a single designer, so all of the prints and colors coordinate). Your fabric is already cut into perfect squares in coordinating and complimentary colors, and all 10" by 10", so this saves you time in having to arrange the perfect set of fabrics as well as a significant amount of cutting time. This is the Miss Kate layer cake from Bonnie & Camille. It would be a great idea to pre-wash the fabric, since you know these napkins are going to get a lot of washing in the future.

The first step is to pair up your squares so that you have a coordinating front and back, then simply put right sides together and sew around all four sides at ⅜", leaving 2 or 3 inches open so you can pull it all right side out later.
Clip the corners and turn them right side out. Use something pokey like a chopstick or crochet needle to poke out the corners so they look nice and crisp.
Press the four sides and sew around the entire napkin at ¼". This will seal up the hole you left. Clip your strings, and you're done! I made 10 in less than an hour, and figure one would take you just five minutes if you spend a minute on each step! Easy, peasy!
Wouldn't these make lovely gifts?! Think of how beautiful and thoughtful a dozen of these would be as a wedding gift! Imagine tying them up with ribbon and some household utensils, decor, or dishes!
