Over the last 4 years, I've got to experience some pretty amazing things thanks to my relationship with Walt Disney Studios, but I'd never got to visit a working movie set until 2018 when I got to visit the Captain Marvel set and meet some of the cast members. Check out all the cool details!
In April of 2018, I binged watched all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies that I could get my hands on. I had just received one of the most coveted invitations in the world: a ticket to the premiere of Avengers: Infinity War in Hollywood and I needed to make sure I was up to speed on all things Marvel. I was pretty sure I had a good handle on it all and even started to read some Marvel fandom sites where I learned a little bit about Captain Marvel (a.k.a. Carol Danvers). I'd never read the Captain Marvel comics, but she sounded exciting and I knew that Marvel Studios was working on a Captain Marvel movie. I just never imagined I'd get to see it being made, but that's exactly what happened.
During my visit to Los Angeles for the Avengers: Infinity War premiere, I, along with 24 other bloggers from around the country, got to visit the set of Captain Marvel. It was super secret and we couldn't tell anyone about it, but now that the release date is right around the corner, I can finally share more details and photos with you!
Before I get ahead of myself, let me share a little background info about Captain Marvel if you're newer to the MCU:
Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” sidesteps the traditional origin-story template, with Carol Danvers already possessing her superhero powers. Leaving her earthly life behind, she joins an intergalactic elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by their enigmatic commander, Yon-Rogg. But after Danvers has trained and worked with the Starforce team, and become a valued member¬, she finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. While on Earth she quickly lands on the radar of Nick Fury, and they must work together against a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls—the notorious Marvel bad guys made even more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities—and their leader, Talos, who is spearheading a Skrull invasion of Earth.
Based on the beloved Marvel comic-book series, first published in 1967, “Captain Marvel” stars Academy Award® winner Brie Larson (“Room,” “Kong: Skull Island”) as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson (Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “The Hateful Eight”) as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Mississippi Grind”) as Talos, with Annette Bening (“American Beauty,” “20th Century Women”) as Supreme Intelligence, with Clark Gregg (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) as Agent Coulson and Jude Law (“Sherlock Holmes,” “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”) as Yon-Rogg.
Captain Marvel Set Visit
First things first. When you're going to visit a movie set, you've got to dress the part. I immediately ordered this awesome Captain Marvel t-shirt and grabbed my matching Mustard Tieks and coordinated with one of my blogging besties, Victoria from Simply Today Life. Little did we know, Tessa from Mama's Geeky also had a super cool outfit picked out.
We were guided through different parts of the studio lot where different trailers housed all sorts of Captain Marvel props and wardrobe items. It was pretty awesome to say the least; I mean, check out these Skrull blasters we were able to pose with.
One particular area where we spent a good bit of time was the warehouse that housed a massive spaceship interior. Construction was still on-going and we saw them literally building it from the ground up. In the still from the movie above, you'll see the area that I'm referencing. It was so cool to walk through and see and touch the space.
We also got to do a little role play!
Once you see the movie, you'll see that Carol Danvers and Nick Fury spend a little time together, along with her cat, in flight. We were there during the filming of this scene and got to see Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and the cat in action.
It was fascinating to see each test and take. There are so many amazing people on hand to make these movies that we love and it was a privilege to get to chat with them and experience their passion for making these films.
It was also a privilege to meet Larson and Jackson!
Seriously, seeing Brie Larson up close as Carol Danvers in a Nine Inch Nails t-shirt was awesome. Pretty sure with that t-shirt choice, she's obviously the coolest superhero ever.
After seeing the closing credits of Avengers: Infinity War, where Nick Fury sends an urgent message paging Captain Marvel and visiting the Captain Marvel set, I'm SO excited to see how she'll develop into one of the most powerful superheroes in the MCU. Who else is going to see Captain Marvel on March 8th?
