Growing up, our family tried to have a family movie night once a week. Now that my kids are old enough to enjoy movies, we wanted to start a similar tradition of our own. I've partnered with Netflix to share my suggestions on the BEST movies for family movie night.
Why host family movie nights?
Family time has always been extremely important to me. I wanted to start a movie night tradition while my kids are young so that as they get older and busier they will still want to do at least this one thing together as a family. When I was a kid, we had our small VHS collection to choose a movie from. I fondly remember playing "eenie meenie" among our favorites to pick the title we would watch that night.
Things have changed quite a bit since then! With the ability to stream Netflix, we've got the world at our fingertips from classic films to brand new titles. When Moana and Trolls popped up as available to stream this month, my kids were ecstatic. I love that Netflix is able to get new movies so quickly! It's much easier for us to watch Netflix than it is to go somewhere to rent a movie that I have to remember to return to avoid a late fee.

Our new family tradition is choosing a movie together on Netflix to stream once a week. We usually order pizza that night (because of convenience) and we love to make kettle corn to share. (Side note: my kids were amazed that you can make popcorn so sweet-apparently they've been sheltered, ha!) Then we curl up in a pile of blankets and watch the film together. We've watched some classic shows that I loved as a kid, and also some new releases. It's great because Netflix adds new shows every month so we can always find something to add to our list.
It will be so fun to see how our family movie night changes over the years as the kids get older. Hopefully, they will always enjoy curling up on the couch with some kettle corn. I love spending time with my kids and this is one way we can all decompress and relax together after a busy day. Plus, I'm thankful for Netflix so I don't have to buy a bunch of movies to give us options on what to watch!
What are your favorite traditions to bring your family together? Do you love to watch movies on Netflix? I'd love to hear about your favorites in the comments.
