Want to curl up with your spouse and watch a good show? Here's a list of the best shows to watch on Netflix right now. Y0u'll both love them!
I've teamed up with the Netflix #StreamTeam for this post.
With two little kids at home, quality time with my husband isn't easy to come by. We are lucky to get out for the occasional date night but more often we get to spend time together after the kids are asleep at night. Most of the time that means curling up and watching a show together, which is exciting enough for me! It doesn't always work to watch shows as they air but we've been able to binge-watch some favorites on Netflix. There are a few that I watch by myself because my husband has no interest, but I wanted to share some of the best shows to watch on Netflix that we've recently watched together and both enjoy!
Best Shows to Watch on Netflix With Your Husband
The Blacklist: With three seasons available on Netflix, you'll have some catching up to do on this crime thriller. James Spader plays a brilliant FBI fugitive who turns himself in, offering to help them capture dangerous criminals in exchange for his immunity. He also demands to work with a rookie profiler played by Megan Boone, and teaches her to think like a criminal to catch the convicts. The Blacklist has a compelling plot and enough action to keep you on your toes!
House of Cards: We're still loving this Neflix original series that now has four seasons available to stream. Both Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright have won Golden Globes (and been nominated for multiple awards) for their conniving, ruthless characters Francis and Claire Underwood. Even if you're not particularly politically-inclined, the twisting drama keeps things interesting and it's definitely not a predictable show.
The Walking Dead: I am LOVING The Walking Dead right now, and my husband is right there along with me. We're in season six of the series and I look forward to bed time every night so we can watch a couple more episodes. If you haven't been caught up in this post-apocalyptic zombie world yet, you're missing out. By season six, we've got favorite characters and cliff-hangers almost every episode, and I'm always on the edge of my seat. Even if zombies aren't your thing, there are plenty of plot twists to keep you and your man entertained.
The 100: This is another post-apocalyptic drama but it's totally different from anything I've seen before. If your husband is into sci-fi at all, this will grab his attention and the characters, though polarizing, will draw you in. The premise is that 97 years after a nuclear apocalypse, one hundred teenage delinquents are sent from a space station back down to Earth to see if it's inhabitable. What they find on Earth has kept the show engaging for the three seasons available on Netflix, and the fourth season just finished filming.
Breaking Bad: I was a little behind when it came to watching Breaking Bad. By the time we watched it all of the episodes through season 5 were available on Netflix, so we were able to catch the whole series without having to wait between seasons! In the show, a chemistry teacher who is dying of cancer tries to secure his family's future by manufacturing and selling crystal meth with a former student.
Stranger Things: Here's another Netflix original that gained popularity so fast that we HAD to binge-watch it and learn what all the hype was about. A young boy disappears from a small town in the 80's and the chain of events that follows is engrossing, to say the least. This show? LOVE. I don't know if it's the nostalgia it brings back from adventure movies I enjoyed as a kid, or the amazing child actors and brilliant plot, but it's a show worth watching. My husband and I watched the first season twice and are eagerly awaiting the second.
Black Mirror: So here's another show up the sci-fi vein (apparently we like sci-fi!). Three seasons are available for streaming on Netflix. With technology constantly changing and advancing, this sci-fi anthology explores a twisted, high-tech future where humanity's greatest innovations and darkest instincts collide. It's dark, suspenseful, and full of unexpected consequences!
Shameless: The characters in this show are 100% shameless but that's what makes it so good. We call it our guilty pleasure show because the themes and situations are often ridiculous but they create so much exciting drama. I honestly wasn't sure if I'd like Shameless at first, but after connecting with the characters in season one, I really enjoy watching their antics. Starring Emmy-winner William H. Macy as the alcoholic patriarch of a dysfunctional Chicago family, and Emmy Rossum as the oldest sister who tries to keep them all together, it's definitely a show to watch after the kids are in bed.
Making a Murderer: A documentary-style series about the convictions of Steven Avery and his time behind bars raises questions about his guilt and the authorities who put him there. After being released from a wrongful conviction, Steven Avery is put behind bars by the same authorities, prompting this look into his life and whether he was wrongfully convicted again. The first season is available to stream and I've heard rumor that a second season is in the works.
Dexter: If you need a show to keep you occupied for awhile, Dexter is it! Spanning eight seasons, ALL available to stream on Netflix, it's sure to capture your interest for a long time. Mild-mannered Dexter (played by Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall) is a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police. At night, he is a serial killer who only targets other murderers. We got hooked on this show while it was still airing, but re-watched the whole series this past year.
House, M.D.: Speaking of shows you can watch in their entirety, House, M.D. also has eight seasons available on Netflix. This critically acclaimed series has won numerous awards including Emmys and Golden Globes, and the cast is led by Golden Globe winner Hugh Laurie. Laurie plays an unconventional, often abrasive, medical genius who works with a team of doctors to diagnose nearly impossible cases. His addiction to pain-killers and unorthodox ways of diagnosing patients only add to the drama of the show.
Bates Motel: Almost everyone has heard of the Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho, and Bates Motel is a contemporary prequel to the thriller. Norman Bates (played by Freddie Highmore) and his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga) move to a small town and purchase a run-down motel. Almost immediately we start to see glimpses of Norman's mental illness and strange things begin to happen in the coastal town. Four seasons are available to stream on Netflix and a fifth and final season is in the works.
Many of these shows are available with Netflix' new downloading service, so you can save them to a device and watch them anytime!
