20 Ideas for PE at Home

What does school look like for your kids? Are you homeschooling? Distance learning? In-person? Hybrid? It's definitely an interesting time and it seems like everyone I know has a different-looking school setting. If you're new to homeschooling or have your kids home part-time, you may be looking for ways to incorporate gym class or physical education (PE at home). I know our kids are full of energy and that when we devote part of the day to outdoor/active time, they seem to focus better when it's time for schoolwork!

I'm always looking for new ways to help our kids get the wiggles out. I thought it may be helpful to compile a list of things your kids can do at home (without much equipment) to supplement gym class or PE! The activities vary; some focus on large motor, some on fine motor, and some just on general full-body movement. Many can be done outdoors but lots can be done indoors as well.

20 Ideas for PE at Home

    1. Hopscotch
    2. Bean Bag Toss
    3. Simon Says
    4. Jump Rope
    5. Monkey Bars gym at home
    6. Dance Party
    7. Planking
    8. Cartwheels
    9. Yoga
    10. Ride a Bicyclepediped bike
    11. Practice underhand and overhand throwing
    12. Run through a sprinkler
    13. Jumping Jacks
    14. Push Ups and Sit Ups
    15. Play on a Ninja Linepediped ninja line
    16. Family Walk
    17. Swinging
    18. Cartwheels and Handstands
    19. Frog Hops and Crab Walks
    20. Short Sprints

Check out our rainy day activities for kids and outdoor fall activities for kids for more ideas.

Best shoes for gym class at home

When kids are physically active, the next best thing to bare feet is pediped shoes! Our kids have worn them for years and we've always been happy with how they hold up and mold to the kids' feet. It's so important to me that their shoes have flexible soles to allow for healthy foot development, and pediped shoes are very pliable.

    pediped

Lincoln just got these Flex Dani Grey Shoes from pediped and they may be my favorite pair of his yet! They're both stylish and comfortable, and are also vegan. Some of pediped's shoes, including this pair, are machine washable which is a huge bonus to me. Lincoln is always finding mud and dirt piles to play in, so I love that I can throw these in the washing machine and they'll come out good as new.

    pediped

Harper picked out a pair of pediped's Flex Force Athletic Shoes this time! She's all about the vibrant colors, especially pink, so these are right up her alley. Just like Lincoln's style, her shoes are machine washable and vegan. They're also made with pediped's Ultra Light Technology which is designed to help support kids' feet in all activities while being very lightweight.

    pediped

pediped also has an innovative FlexFit System, so each pair of shoes comes with inserts that can be added or removed to change the size by ½, extending the life of the shoe! They're breathable and flexible to allow for maximum comfort and movement while playing or having gym class at home.

We're excited to come up with even more ideas to supplement physical education while we're homeschooling. I'd love to hear some of your favorite indoor and outdoor activities that keep your kids' bodies moving! To keep those little feet growing properly, check out pediped's full shoe line that also includes boots and dress shoes.
