5 Things Kids Learn from a Magformers Magnetic Building Set

There are a lot of educational toys on the market right now, but we've been looking to get our hands on a Magformers magnetic building set for awhile. My kids have enjoyed playing with them at friends' houses and I knew they'd be an invaluable learning tool. I've partnered with Magformers to share 5 things kids can learn from playing with a magnetic building set!

    Magformers

    Magromers Magnetic Building Set

I have to admit, I was as excited as my kids to open the 100 Piece Magnetic Building Set. This is our first set of Magformers and the 100-Piece set is a great starting point because it has such a large variety of pieces.

    magformers magnetic building set

The My First Sets are a great place to start because they come with all of the basic shapes and some fantastic extras. With wheelsets and trees plus eleven different geometric shapes, the options are endless for what your kids can create. Plus, the 100-Piece set comes with a step-by-step idea booklet and two hardback playbooks.

    Magofrmers Build Teamwork

You'd be hard-pressed to find a parent who doesn't want their kids to play together instead of fighting over toys. While there have been a few small arguments over who is using which pieces, for the most part, my kids really get along while they play with Magformers. I can often find them quietly looking at the hardback playbooks and working out how to build things together.

    magformers magnetic building set

Our son is often in charge of finding the shapes our daughter needs or prying apart stuck-together pieces. Some of the creations get tricky for little hands, so they work together to build tougher structures. Magformers are one toy that they'll actually play with for an extended period of time, also, which is awesome!

    magformers magnetic building set

    Magformers Teach Colors and Shapes

This seems like a simple one, but our son is almost two and his vocabulary is starting to expand like crazy. We're working on teaching him colors in English and Spanish, and Magformers are the perfect learning tool! The 100-Piece Set has a huge variety of colors.

    magformers magnetic building set

We're also working on teaching our son shapes. We'll say "Can you find a blue square?" and kill two birds with one stone-colors and shapes! He's already quickly picking up which shapes are which, and I'm sure colors will be soon to follow. This set also has shapes like pentagons and trapezoids, so our daughter is learning shapes she didn't previously know, too!

Magformers Teach Science and Engineering Concepts

Magnets are always interesting to kids, as they learn why they attract and repel. Magformers are unique because they contain rotating Rare Earth Neodymium magnets which connect every time. This relieves frustration as children are building. Magnets are a great foray into science and kids can learn even more as they explore and create with Magformers.

    magformers magnetic building set

When it comes to engineering, kids are putting their brains to work while building structures and other objects with Magformers. I've already noticed my kids learning basic concepts about structures, like what happens when you try to put small pieces on the bottom and large pieces on top, and why things collapse when they do. They're also learning about two-dimensional objects and how they differ from three-dimensional structures.

    magformers magnetic building set

    Magformers Teach Counting and Patterns

    magformers magnetic building set

The hardback playbooks that come with the 100-Piece Magformers Magnetic Building Set have been invaluable tools in our kids' learning process. There are many patterns throughout which really get their little minds working, as well as pages that request certain numbers or colors of specific shapes.

    magformers magnetic building set

Our kids have a great time matching the shapes up in the book and then lifting their creations and watching them come together with the help of the magnets. My daughter recognizes numbers so she's able to see on the page how many pieces she needs for each creation. Our son is constantly picking up on things that our daughter is doing and learning along the way also.

    magformers magnetic building set

    Magformers Teach Patience

    magformers magnetic building set

I have to say, this was a concept I didn't necessarily expect would be developed using Magformers. However, I'm happy to say that I see a lot more patience stemming from my kids as they play with this magnetic building set. Sometimes, despite their best building efforts, things fall apart. (Or, sometimes, our little guy intentionally destroys them!) While our daughter occasionally gets frustrated by this, recently I've seen her actually laugh as things come crashing down.

    magformers magnetic building set

Also, if her brother destroys one of her creations, she'll say "let's build it again!" instead of acting out towards him. I've been so impressed by her maturity as she's learning patience. I really think that Magformers are helping her with this because she's so inspired by her ability to create that she can look past her brother being destructive.

    magformers magnetic building set

We absolutely adore our Magformers set and we can't wait to add more to our collection. I've seen our kids learn so much from them already and it will be fun to see them continue to create new things and expand their abilities.

    magformers magnetic building set

I have to be honest, I think I have as much fun as the kids do building with our Magformers set. It's so satisfying to hear them click together and make different creations! The idea booklet is awesome and has TONS of ideas for building, and the 100-Piece set is so versatile. It's geared for ages three and up but I have no problem letting our (almost) two-year-old son play with them while I'm supervising. The magnets are welded into the BPA-free plastic shells so there's no concern that he will get magnets out or ingest them.

I love these because both the 6 y o and the 15 m o can play together with them. The older one begs for more and like you said, they're helpful to teach the younger one shapes and colors.

I LOVE the way I see my sons brain work when he plays with his set of magformers! We have the basic beginner set but it hasn't limited his creativity! And as a boy mom, I really love how long magformers hold his attention and allow me to incorporate other aspects of learning! Shapes, colors, forming letters, possibilities are endless!
