These ground turkey burgers and brats are amazing! They'll be a hit at your next cookout. We've teamed up with Shady Brook Farms to show you how it's done.
One of my favorite things about going home to my family in Ohio is how we grill out on the back porch almost every weekend. Those smells and flavors really bring on spring and summer for me, and while I absolutely enjoy the food and look forward to it every time, sometimes its hard to avoid the high-fat meats and the feeling after eating such heavy burgers and hot dogs. For some time now, I've been buying Shady Brook Farms turkey products and have been completely satisfied with the taste and the quality of the meat that I am serving my own little family, so last week when I went home to visit my immediate family for a Spring Break trip, I decided to serve up some burgers and bratwurst made with Shady Brook Farms for a healthier menu, and the picnic was a huge success!
The weather is warming up everywhere, and the grills are coming out of the garages and taking their place center-stage at everyone's get-togethers. I choose to use Shady Brook Farms products because their turkeys are raised without growth-promoting antibiotics and raised on more than 700 independent family farms. You'd think these healthier turkey products would be substantially more expensive, but that's not the case at all! They're affordable and they fit right in line with the healthier lifestyle I'm trying to create for myself and my family. When I gather with friends or family for cook-outs, I like to create something a little unique that will be remembered beyond the next grilling party. This time around, I wanted to make burgers and brats with hints of German flavors and lots of color using Shady Brook Farms turkey!
German style ground turkey burgers + brats
For this recipe, I used:
- 1 onion
- 1 red pepper
- 1 orange pepper
- 1 yellow pepper
- 1 can of artichoke hearts
- 1 can of Sauerkraut
- 1 8 oz. carton of sliced mushrooms
- Provolone cheese slices
- 1 bottle of balsamic vinaigrette dressing
Slice everything up (except the Sauerkraut) and mix in a deep aluminum baking dish. Pour the entire bottle of balsamic vinaigrette over top and set on the grill to cook like a little hot tub for your veggies!
Heat until the marinade is bubbling and cook until the ingredients look softer, probably 20-25 minutes.
The veggies always turn out so juicy and very saturated with flavor. The Shady Brook Farms turkey ground turkey burgers and brats cooked up excellent, just as I knew they would! The ground turkey forms well into patties and you'd never guess they are 93% lean!
The Shady Brook Farms Bratwursts are SO GOOD! I always have to fight for one of these. They go fast.
I will say that a huge component of this German-style meal is the pretzel buns!! These are a must! Take a ground turkey burger, top it with a slice of Provolone, add a scoop of veggies and top with Sauerkraut, and dig in!
These German Turkey Burgers were DELICIOUS! Even my two picky-eater-brothers gobbled them down.
And then these Bratwurst hot dogs! Mega win on all accounts! The flavors were all perfectly married and no one could guess that the meat was actually lean turkey sausage! No compensating for flavor with Shady Brook Farms. You can really show off your grill master skills with these flavorful turkey products that incorporate new flavor combinations including turkey breast items, ground turkey burgers and turkey brats, all of which go great on the grill!
My four guests included my parents and my two little brothers, and then my three little kids were happy to join us. It was a fun little event, and it was a highlight of our Spring Break visit to Ohio.
We're looking forward to many more grilling parties this summer together, and I'd be happy to grill exclusively with Shady Brook Farms!
I really loved creating these recipes for my parents and siblings, and introducing them to Shady Brook Farms. Look for these Shady Brook Farms turkey products in your local grocery store so that you can create your own flavorful grilling parties with wholesome turkey!
