I'm so excited that summer is just around the corner, so I've partnered with Lunchbox to bring you this double braid ponytail tutorial. It's already quite warm and humid here in Florida, so I'm turning to one of my favorite hairstyles that also keeps me cool, a double braid ponytail. As a bonus, I can also weave my awkward length bangs into the hairdo while I'll growing them out.
When it's hot outside, I cannot stand to wear my hair down. I just can't deal with it sticking to the back of my neck, so I almost always pull my hair up into a bun or ponytail. Since my hair is fine, a simple ponytail or bun can leave me looking a bit frumpy though, so I try to dress it up a bit by pulling from the hottest trends, and right now it's all about the braids. I'm so into them and love that they can give the appearance of volume, but the hair is still pulled up and out of my face. This is especially helpful since I'm trying to grow out my bangs and there is almost nothing that I can do with them at this point - except this cute double braid ponytail.
How to do a double braid ponytail
Start with clean or day (or two!) old hair and part it down the middle.
Pull an elastic around one side to keep it out of the way while you work with the other side.
Start at the front of your hair and start braiding your hair from the forehead backwards. You're going to be doing a french braid, so once you separate your first three pieces and start crossing them, just add in a bit more hair each time you cross a piece with another.
Once you get to the spot in the back where you want your ponytail just loop an elastic band around that section and push that small ponytail to the side to keep it out of the way.
Repeat the braiding process on the other side.
Once you get to the spot where your 1st ponytail is, grab both sections with one hand and make one large ponytail. Remove the elastic band from the 1st side while you're holding the entire ponytail and then secure the whole ponytail with that same elastic.
Now you have both of your braids leading into one ponytail at the back. You can either stop here (and look fabulous), or you can do what I've done and grab some hair from the bottom side of the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic. Once you wrap a small section of hair around the elastic, just use a bobby pin to secure the end into place by tucking it into the ponytail.
If you're like me and are plagued by frizz during the summer months be sure to choose your hair products wisely. I rely heavily on quality hair products to keep the frizz to a minimum. Luckily, I don't have to spend an arm and a leg to get salon quality products to use at home. I turn to Suave, a brand I know and trust, to help me achieve a salon look at home.
Suave products have a brand new look but they're still the same premium products at an affordable price. I used the Keratin Infusion line for this look. Suave's smoothing shampoo and conditioner contains keratin and gently cleanses and seals your hair cuticles for frizz control for up to 48 hours and smooth, manageable hair.
Whether you want to achieve this double braid ponytail, a braided twist, or easy beach waves - Suave has you covered with their Professionals products. Be sure to check out their Coconut Oil Infusion, Biotin Infusion, Sea Mineral Infusion, Moroccan Infusion, and Keratin Infusion lines at Walmart.

This is a very pretty braid. I am older with very long and though I love all of the cute hairstyles out there most of them look too young fpr me. This would work because it is neat and pretty but not too cutesy.

I was looking up hair tutorials and ideas for my baby shower,. My friend (who is a pro at braiding hair) offered to style it for me. This tutorial is something I could pull-off myself which is wonderful. It looks sophisticated yet sporty. I have long hair and this style would be a must for me,especially in the summer heat. Thanks for sharing.

I used to have really long hair, that I could almost sit on. This style would have been great to use back then. However when I got my first job after college, working in a children's group home, having long hair was not practical so I had it cut short. Some days I do wish I had the longer hair again so I could do these wonderful hairstyles. Your hair looks very good in the pictures. I already use Suave products so I agree with using their newest ones 🙂
