We started a new tradition this year, and it's making salt dough ornaments! This is our first year but I know we'll be doing it each year from now on to memorialize our kids hand and footprints. We're also going to give them as gifts to grandparents and great-grandparents. We made fun Monsters Inc. Christmas ornaments for my parents this year!

I love giving and receiving personal, homemade gifts. We thought it would be fun to add ornaments to some of our family members' gifts this year. Our parents adore our kids and we know they're going to love these hand and footprint Monsters Inc Christmas ornaments.

We started off following this salt dough recipe which was super simple. After baking our hand and footprints, we picked one of each to make Sully and Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. I had some acrylic paints and paintbrushes which we needed for the project, and silicone baking mats are also a must!

I did paint the ornaments white before starting with the other colors, just so they would be a little brighter. Salt dough really soaks up the paint and it dries quickly so I was able to do different layers within minutes.

We gave Sully his signature purple markings on a blue body, and the little details like his arms and Mike's horns really finish off the ornaments nicely.

I freehand painted the monsters' mouths and of course we had to glue on googly eyes! We had so much fun making these and I know my parents will love to get such a personal gift from their "little monsters".
