Spending more time at home doesn't mean we need to abandon our sense of style. See how I'm elevating my loungewear and everyday looks with my favorite ballet flats, Tieks.
It's funny how much can change in a year; especially the last year. I don't think I've ever spent as much time at home as I have in the past 12 months. Instead of workdays, happy hours, and running errands, I'm lucky if I run to my mailbox most days. That also means there's been a drastic change in my wardrobe. Instead of reaching for jeans and heels, I found myself reaching for sweats and slippers most days. What's the point of getting all done up when there's nowhere to go? Well, that was my way of thinking for quite a few months while spending long days at home. Then I realized I was getting into quite the slump, both mood-wise and looks-wise, and knew I needed to do something different.
One day, I looked down at my yoga pants and bare, unpolished nails and thought I should really try a little harder to take care of myself. Not because I was going anywhere or that I'd see anyone, but just because getting ready and looking my best makes me feel good. That's my form of self-care, and I think we can all agree, we could all use a little extra self-care right now.

Nail salon visits are still out of the question for most people, so I decided to try my hand at an at-home manicure. I ordered a gel polish starter kit and some extra polishes and figured out how to do gel manicures at home. I'm super impressed with the results. The gel lasts up to two weeks, I'm saving a ton of money by doing my own manicures, and I just feel so much better when I look down and see pretty, polished nails.
Having fresh flowers on hand has also been a little form of self-care for me. I've been adding them to my grocery pickup order to add a little more cheer to my house.
Along with doing my nails, simply blowing out my hair and putting on a little makeup and mascara can really change my whole outlook on the day. For some reason, it makes me feel like I'm ready to tackle my to-do list. Even if that means I'm just working from home on the couch.
I know there's no sense in getting fully dressed in slacks and a blouse to work from home, but I do try to slip on my version of "elevated loungewear" each morning. Rather than settle for oversize sweats, I opt for cute leggings and sweaters. And, rather than grab Uggs or slippers, I always reach for my Tieks instead. The Tieks silhouette elevates every outfit, no matter if I'm wearing soft workout leggings or my favorite pair of comfy jeans.
If you know me, you know Tieks are my very favorite flats and I've got quite the collection of Tieks shoes (check out that link for tons of photos and side-by-side color comparisons). Tieks always make me feel really put together and I don't have to sacrifice comfort for looks. As I mentioned in my Tieks review, they're the most comfortable flats I've ever worn. I can wear them for the entire day without getting painfully sore feet, red marks, or blisters.
Reading The Home Edit has inspired me to reorganize my house during the past few months.
My house is 100% tiled with just a few area rugs and that does a number on my feet. I basically have to wear shoes in my home, otherwise, my feet ache within just a few hours of starting my day. Slipping on a comfy pair of Tieks is the easiest solution so I can keep moving throughout the day. Plus, I love that I can easily wipe down the thick non-skid rubber outsoles with an antibacterial wipe so I can easily transition from outdoor wear to indoor wear.

Did you get the strong urge to purge and organize while you were spending more time at home? I sure did! I did a full overhaul in several rooms and closets and feel so much better. Getting organized always clears my mind. I guess that's a form of self-care for me too. One thing is for sure though, whether I'm traipsing around Disney World for the day or simply reorganizing my pantry at home, Tieks are my go-to shoes. No matter what I'm wearing, I know I can grab my Tieks for a more stylish and polished look; even if I'm just escaping for a secret mom-only trip to Starbucks.

Love watching your videos. I’m sorry if you have done one about this but how do you store your Tieks? Some say to put them in a white sock but I’ve gotten color transfer on my Tieks and I’m trying to avoid this happening again. I don’t know the best way to store ? I love pop pink also!

Hi Anna! I store my Tieks open flat on shelves in my closet. I make sure they aren't touching each other. Sorry if that isn't much help!

Wow!! 72 pairs of Tieks!! I did the Math and that's not a small amount. Honestly, I would be thankful for one or two pairs. I am a Special Education Teacher, K-12 and I'm on my feet for most of the day. Comfort is Key!

Hi Tara! You're correct, it is quite an investment. I've been collecting for several years now and am willing to invest in comfort for sure. I hope you can try a pair!
Tara Pitts Johnson says
I definitely will. First pair, navy blue, then black, green and grey

I will tell you that they are worth the investment. My oldest pair is now 7 years old and look as good today as the day I got them and are even more comfortable because they mold to your feet. If you add up the cost of the cheaper flats you buy every year like I was the money comes out the same. Save up or make them your Christmas wish you might be surprised!
