Early Lingo features an animated monkey, JoJo and his bird friend Lulu, speaking a foreign language as they navigate every day situations. Since Early Lingo utilizes the Total Immersion Method, as soon as the DVD begins, your child is immediately immersed into the target language with no use of translation. This has been proven to be the most effective and natural method of learning a new language.
The animated scenes with JoJo and Lulu are fun and engaging, but there is also live action footage mixed in to show your child real-world situations. For instance, in the first DVD JoJo encounters animated balloons, then real children are shown with actual balloons. I really love how the DVD switches between colorful animation and real life footage. It breaks up the lesson and keeps my little one's attention.
Another thing I love about Early Lingo is that the entire DVD features only authentic native speakers of the language that you choose; in my case Spanish. Even the subtitles are written in Spanish to further reinforce the spoken word. The voices are clear and easy to understand and you can definitely tell which item or action they are referring to when they are speaking. Each concept is specific and repeated in multiple scenes to avoid any confusion. That's another learning tool used by Early Lingo - repetition. Repetition is vital in a child's learning proces,s and by featuring the same item over and over in different situations, it helps to drive the information home.
The Early Lingo Series is organized into 12 familiar everyday activities (for a total of 12 DVDs). Each DVD is a separate mini-adventure featuring scenarios like going to the park, market, or school. We've watched the first six DVDs countless times now. My little guy is only 15 months old and I'm really impressed at how long these DVDs will hold his attention. Since he isn't very verbal yet, I'm not sure how much Spanish he has actually learned, but I know that I have learned a lot! I really enjoy watching these DVDs with him - not only am I learning, I'm also able to reinforce what he's learning.

It's a toss up between Spanish and German in our house. I am part German but don't know the language very well so it's something we could do together. But my daughter's father's family is Hispanic and I think teaching her the language would be nice in the same way.

When I looked around on the Early Lingo website I learned that Bilingual children or multilingual children are more likely to grow up and score higher on the S-A-T. I like the total immersion method and I also like that I can learn along too and help my child learn.
