We've have a pretty bad track record with vacuums around here. In the past, we've gone for the cheapest options and have gotten just about what we paid for -- poor vacuums that don't last the year. I was honestly a little relieved to just leave our vacuum behind when we moved to Boston, where for 5 years, we had hardwood floors throughout the house. Going vacuum-less and sticking with sweeping and mopping wasn't going to fly when we moved to student family housing with carpet throughout the home. We needed something reliable, and I was totally willing to pay a higher price for just one vacuum that I didn't hate. My expectations were well exceeded when I teamed up with Shark and received the Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Vacuum at no cost to facilitate this review. Vacuum-haters can rejoice because this is one vacuum that will change the way you view vacuuming and its only going to make your life easier and much more fun when it comes to housecleaning!
Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Vacuum
There she is, the Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Vacuum! When I told the hubby that a real and decent vacuum was on its way, he had me make sure that this was a bagless appliance. He'd grown up using and changing vacuum bags and swears he'll never do it again. I looked it up: no replacement bags. Ok, the Shark can stay.
But then you should have heard the "ooh-ing" and "ahh-ing" coming from his mouth when he opened the box and put it together! We admit that we were surprised to see SO many pieces coming out of the box, but all of the useful attachments really add to the appeal of this lift-away. Included in the box, you've got a hard-floor Genie attachment with microfiber pad, a caddy for carrying the canister, a TruePet Mini-Motorized Brush attachment, an upholstery tool, and two brushes.
The kids are really into "Transformers" right now so they think this vacuum is the bomb. So many parts! So many ways to put it together! I don't think it'll be hard to hand off vacuuming to these kids for Saturday chores. Score.
Here are two of my favorite attachments, starting with the Hard-Floor Genie™ Attachment with a microfiber pad. The pad velcros on so you can wash it afterward. Go ahead and clean your hard floors while you've got the vacuum out! I'm saving time by not having to get out the broom and dustpan, and if you're careful, you can even use this on your blinds.
The TruePet™ Mini Motorized Brush Attachment gives you a motorized brush in the palm of your hand! I can't think of a more ideal arrangement when it comes to collecting pet hair because you can achieve such a powerfully deep clean in a concentrated area.
It's like you might as well throw out your dust buster too because you can achieve the same results (or better) with your Shark attachments.
Previously, we've been using our bObi robotic vacuum on all our hardwood floors, and while it does a great job on low-pile carpet, it simply and absolutely cannot do stairs or high-pile shag rugs. I feel like this Lift-Away was made specifically for stairs, corners, and odd-fitting places both high and low, and here is where the beauty of the "lift-away" canister comes into play.
See, this is really 3 vacuums in one, which makes it extremely versatile and the right tool for whatever job you need to be tackled. First, in upright mode, the Advanced Swivel Steering allows you to swerve and bend around the room, dodging furniture and out-of-the-way places.
Secondly, the Powered Lift-AwayTM Technology allows it to become a canister vacuum that you take with you as you climb and clean those stairs one at a time. The canister "lifts away" so that the cleaning head can clean even harder-to-reach places like under and behind furniture. Take it with you on the stairs, or tote it around on the caddy, which also ingeniously holds your tools and other brushes as you go from room to room.
Just look at that rotation in the picture above! I've never used a vacuum with this kind of flexibility and it takes a lot of strain and frustration out of the job of vacuuming.
Thirdly, take off the canister and release the wand and you've never been more free address any dusty area of your home, high or low. There is a remarkable amount of suction regardless of what mode you're using.
I've been surprised and pleased with how intuitive and effortless it is to switch between modes and put it back together when you're done. I referenced the manual only once or twice with questions, but since then, taking full advantage of all the things this Lift-Away can do is easy.
Another favorite feature are these LED Lights! Even in daylight, there are dark corners in every room and these lights help me see just where the dirt is. Its fantastic for under furniture and those dark stairwells. And did I mention how much I love the super long cord? 30 feet!!
Notice how this is called a POWERED vacuum, meaning that there are motors underneath the head that propel it along, making it even easier (and totally more fun) to vacuum. Think of it like powered steering on a car. Without it, you'd be pushing the weight of the vacuum as you go along. The motor makes it no struggle at all, and I'm not fighting to make a turn. In addition to this, because of the fingertip controls, I can easily vacuum the house while carrying the baby because I can control everything with one hand and one foot, and with this technology, pushing is practically effortless.
Emptying all the collected dirt couldn't be easier since you simply take off the canister, open the bottom lid, and dump out the contents. I was amazed at the amount of gunk the Shark collected!! Holy gross. See those intact pieces of cereal and pretzels? Amazing. The Shark® Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology® actually locks in 99.9% of dust and allergens, so none of it is getting emitted back into the air. The filters are washable too!
The vacuum's big slogan on the front of the box is that it "never loses suction", so that regardless of how much hair and dirt is trapped inside, you're still going to get a high-performance suction as good as the first time you plugged it in. This vacuum definitely has more suction than anything else I've ever owned, and I feel like the carpets are really getting a deep clean. Our Shark is a great addition to the family. And the "sucky" jokes will just not stop.

My floors get so dirty, especially now since all the leaves are starting to fall off the trees. My "Fur Babies" have those curly fluffy tails and everything and anything comes in the house while taking a ride on their tales! My old vacuum cleaner, which was a gift from my Mom when I moved into my home some 16 years ago, has finally given up the ghost. It won't turn on. It also wasn't doing a very good job anymore and sometimes smelled like burning rubber so I'm not sure it's worth getting repaired. I just told my husband today that I need a Shark! I go through at least one vacuum a year, so for Christmas my husband got me a Dyson. Exciting, right? I thought so, until I had to take it in for repairs a couple months later when the power head stopped rotating. It was in the shop for over a month! Then last week I was sweeping up popcorn, and it plugged it up, forcing me to take it all apart to unplug it. I just haven't been impresssed and wish we'd spent the money on a Shark instead.

With 4 kids I need something that can handle it all and I think that this fits the bill. Oh, do I NEED a shark. I have friends that have them and love them. This looks lightweight, unlike mine. It has the Lift-away feature, mine does not. It can maneuver under and around furniture, mine does not. It does not have a bag, mine does. It locks away 99.9% dust and allergens, mine does not. A TruePet attachment, oh, how I could use that! Microfiber pad, convenience over the top! I fight with mine ALL the time. This one looks like heaven!

I need a shark! Not only do I have a pup, but I have parakeets which make a far bigger mess. I have to vacuum under the cage each day to take care of the seeds and feathers. Right now they're all molting, and oh baby--is this work.
