I've teamed up with Melt to show you a simple way to put the spark back in your marriage.
My husband and I are approaching our 6th wedding anniversary (where has the time gone?!). Sometimes it feels like just yesterday that we got married and honeymooned our way through Italy, but other times it feels like it was SO very long ago. We just welcomed our second child to the world a few weeks ago and it feels like forever since we've been romantic with each other. Stress at work, stress over kids, keeping up with the household tasks, not feeling super sexy with an extra 2o pounds of baby weight (in my case anyway)... all of these things start to snowball after a while and it can drive you and your spouse away from each other - at least that is how feels for me sometimes. I'd been brainstorming ways to show my husband more affection and how to reignite the spark within our marriage when I first heard about Melt: Massage for Couples, a video course to teach you and your spouse how to give each other amazing massages.
I have to admit, initially I wasn't sure I'd be interested in learning more about Melt. Not because I didn't think it was a good concept, I just like to stick to PG topics and I was worried it would be racy and a little too sexual. Denis, the co-creator of Melt assured me that this wasn't the case and told me to simply look into it. After exploring Melt and the ideals behind it, I quickly got on board, and I actually got really excited about putting my thoughts into action.
I dove right into Melt. If you're like me, spending a large chunk of time devoted to one task isn't possible on most days. I have a rambunctious toddler and a newborn to take care of, so I was so relieved to see that the videos are broken down into short, manageable sessions that I could watch at my own pace. Plus, you can play them on almost any device (laptop, tablet or iPad, Smart TV, instant access, and on-demand video). The series teaches 17 massage techniques with 3 massage routines and it's recommended to highlight each routine on a "date night". Oh date night, how I've missed you. That sounded absolutely heavenly to me.
Right off the bat, I noticed from the introduction that the videos were going to be high-quality and overall they're beautifully filmed. You'll meet Denis straight away and learn that he's been a professional massage therapist for over 15 years. You'll also catch a glimpse of his beautiful wife Emma, who just happens to be a relationship expert. Together, they perfected the techniques behind Melt over the last 10 years and have taught over 9,000 couples how to relax with their partners and make them melt.
If you've ever tried to give your spouse a massage, you probably went about it all wrong. I bet your partner was laying face down on the bed with their neck cocked to one side. Denis is going to show you the right way to give an intimate (yet tasteful!) massage. He tells you how to cover your bases to make sure your partner's massage experience is amazing. This concept really spoke to me. The whole reason I wanted to take this course was to show my husband love and affection. He loves a good hand massage so I knew he'd definitely be into a more in-depth massage experience, and although it was a bit out of my comfort zone I knew this would speak his love language. Plus, a little mood lighting, candles, massage oil, soft music, maybe even some wine... sounded like a perfect date night to me!
Denis goes on to show you the foundations of massaging your partner with long, sweeping strokes. He teaches you how to use your hands properly so they won't fatigue after just a few minutes. I felt really comfortable learning the techniques from Denis and thought it was fantastic that Emma was on the receiving end of the lessons. Of course, as a married couple they respond quite naturally to each other, but it also made it feel more personal and like something I could achieve myself with my spouse. There are no awkward moments in these video clips and absolutely no nudity. They are so tastefully done and I felt like the techniques were totally doable. It's not like Denis is trying to teach you how to become a professional masseuse - he's teaching you how to connect with your partner on an intimate level through touch. As I mentioned earlier, Melt will take you through 3 different series altogether (each broken into short, 5 minute or less videos): The Basic Series, The Highlights Series, and The Deep Tissue Series. At the end of each series is a follow-along massage routine that you can do to put everything you've learned into action. Now that I'm armed with the proper techniques, I know I'm going to be able to give my husband a fabulous massage.
Melt is about so much more than the massage. It's about you and your loved one spending real, quality time together. On most days my husband and I see each other for a few hours or maybe for a full day on the weekends if he isn't working. Can you guess how much of that time is spent focusing on just one another? Almost none of it. That's the sad reality and precisely why I wanted to try this series. I wanted to take a real break with my husband and reconnect. Massage is such a simple way to reignite that spark in your marriage. It's not only a gift that you're giving to your spouse, it's a way to fortify your marriage.

My boyfriend and I just celebrated our 17th anniversary in March and must say our physical relationship has definitely suffered . I partially blame medications I take for a low libido but I'm sure we could do more to help our relationship than we are currently doing.

This sounds like a great book and a fun activity to do together - and get better at doing it, and then have more fun together!
