Get it together with our DIY nail polish organizer. This tutorial will take you through the steps to create your own nail polish rack so you can finally see what colors you've got!
I've always loved doing my nails! I think it is one of the best pick-me-ups and it is so fun to add some color for upcoming events, vacations, and parties. I've struggled to find a way to organize it all besides just throwing them in a bag or shoe box, so a nail polish organizer has always been on my to-do list. Before this week, my nail polish stash looked like this:
What a mess. Can you relate?
Here's how to make your own Nail Polish Organizer
I decided I could make a wall rack for roughly $5 and get all of these bottles out of the box and onto display. I found this strip of poplin wood at Home Depot for $2-3. I asked them to cut it to the dimensions I had mind right there, and they didn't seem to mind. I came home with 2 boards at 24" and six boards at 16".
You might have to sand the ends to even them up. From here, lay out the boards, mark them evenly spaced apart with a pencil, and if you're brave enough, grab your screwdriver! I used #4 x ¾ inch Flat Phillips screws, which were $1.24 for all the screws I needed, and held the pieces tight together while hubby did the drilling. For the small compartment in the bottom corner of the rack, I pounded in the smaller pieces with small nails and a hammer.
Once its all together, sand down any scratchy edges, and get painting! I used this Krylon gold metallic paint and sprayed the interior sides, then used a Valspar color sample bottle for the outer and front sides.
Finish with a polycrylic gloss, and hang it up! The structure can get quite heavy when filled with a lot of bottles, so make sure you drill sturdy nails into wall studs before filling it up.
The beauty of making your own organizer is that you can customize the size, width, and heights of the compartments. You can make larger areas for larger bottles or nail polish remover and short racks for supplies. With more compartment spaces, you could fill this with perfumes, makeup, and art supplies!
I think this project cost me roughly $5, if you consider how much paint and spray paint was actually used. The cost mainly comes from the wood and screws. Its a quick project and a fun one to put together in an evening or two! You'll love having your beautiful bottles on display!

My polishes are just jammed into a box, but this looks so nice. Maybe I'll organize my polishes one day.

I like these organizers so simple to make BUT I would have to get somebody to hang it on the wall. I have problems getting stuff to hang straight 🙂
