Do you have plans for spring break this year? I've heard of so many families doing ski and snowboard trips this year and even after a winter full of snow I'm a little jealous! I'm thinking we may need to plan a skiing trip this year sometime because our kids would be at the perfect ages to learn. We've definitely found the best winter gear already, and I'm excited to partner with Obermeyer to share Harper's jacket with you (and a sneak peek of mine!).
Obermeyer Stormy Jacket
Right off the bat, I absolutely love the bright colors that Obermeyer offers. The Stormy Jacket is no exception, with a variety of colors/patterns and sizes 2-8. Harper's jacket is the "Off Tropic" colorway, but check out all of the fun options!
How warm and waterproof are Obermeyer jackets?
Living in Minnesota, we need jackets that are both warm and waterproof. We had over two weeks of subzero temps this year, and we needed gear that would keep us safe. Plus, it's just cold here in general for about six months out of the year so having a jacket that's warm and waterproof is a necessity. Obermeyer uses high performance specialty fabrics with a superior DWR polymer coating for stain protection and water resistance. This jacket also comes with a water resistant powderskirt with an elastic hem to keep snow out!
We went with a size 8 jacket for our seven year old because I would love her to wear it this winter and next. She's got room to grow in it right now and I think it will fit great throughout the rest of this season and next. Plus, Obermeyer kids jackets offer the I-Grow™ Extended Wear System which allows you to cut seams at the cuffs to add an additional 1.5" in length!
I can't believe I have a kiddo who is almost eight years old; time really flies. Right now she thinks it's SO cool that this jacket has a variety of interior pockets so she can bring "treasures" with her. I think her favorite part of the Stormy Jacket is the the adorable, heart-shaped working compass! We watch a lot of nature shows and she learned recently how to use a compass, so this is a great addition.
One of the things that makes this jacket so great for physical activities is that it's got full motion technology. Harper has very little resistance when she's running, jumping, climbing, or ice skating! This is going to be a necessity when we try out skiing or snowboarding for the first time also. For kids I think it's especially important to have outerwear that's easy to move around in, and this Obermeyer jacket fits that bill perfectly.
For added comfort, the Stormy Jacket has fleece-warmed chin, neck, hands and ear-warmers. I don't know about your kids, but ours are very particular about being too cold or too hot! Harper hasn't complained once about being cold while wearing this jacket, even in freezing temperatures. We've had a weird winter this year in Minnesota; not as much snow as usual and it's been warming up this week. That said, I'm sure it's going to get cold again and we'll likely get snow at least a couple more times before May!
Obermeyer products are our absolute favorite for winter. They're so high-quality and the workmanship is second-to-none. We're a pretty active family and being outside is important to us, even when it's cold out. There's a Scandinavian phrase that goes something like "there's no such thing as bad weather, just unsuitable clothing" and it couldn't be more true. When we're geared up in our Obermeyer outerwear, we are ready to enjoy nature and playing outdoors, no matter the weather!
Harper got a new winter jacket this year and I did, too! Keep an eye out on the blog because I'll be sharing more about my jacket soon (and I LOVE it). You can buy Obermeyer gear for the whole family and it's fantastic for winter or a family ski trip-be sure to check out their site and let me know your favorite product in the comments!
