When it comes to having clean, drinkable water, it might not be as simple as you think. I thought that having city water would protect us from contaminants but unfortunately I was wrong. I've partnered with ProOne to share why you should consider purchasing a home water filtration system.
Home Water Filtration System
We live in a small, rural town surrounded by farms so I knew there was potential for pesticides and other impurities in our water. I assumed that since our drinking water goes through the city's wastewater treatment plant, it would come into our home ready to drink. However, I was stunned to learn just how many contaminants remain! In our city, there are 13 total contaminants found in our water, and NINE of those exceed the EWG's health guidelines. All of the toxins in our water lead to a potential increase in our risk of cancer, which is terrifying. As soon as I read this data (you can find out your water contaminants by putting your zip code in the EWG's Tap Water Database) I knew we needed to get a home water filtration system.
ProOne Big+ Gravity Water Filter
I did quite a bit of research before deciding on the ProOne Big+ Gravity Water Filter. Eventually I'd love to invest in a water filtration system for the whole house, but since this isn't our "forever" home, the current best option is a gravity water filter. Assembling the whole system took less than half an hour.
A gravity water filter is very simple to use. Once you install the filters (in this system, you can use one, two, or three of ProOne's G2.0 7" filters) you simply pour tap water into the top reservoir. The filters will remove contaminants and your clean, drinkable water will pour into the bottom reservoir. Then you can fill your glasses, pots, or water bottles from the spigot! I love that this gravity filter has a base so you don't need to have the spigot hanging over an edge; a 16 ounce glass fits underneath it just fine!
What do ProOne G2.0 Water Filters Remove from Water?
You may be wondering what these filters remove, which was the most important factor for me in choosing ProOne Water Filters. The G2.0 filters are considered all-in-one and they remove heavy metals, fluoride, pesticides, herbicides, chlorine, chloramines, bacteria, pharmaceuticals and more! I was looking for a filter that removed pesticides in particular, but when I found that these filters also remove fluoride, chlorine, and heavy metals, I was particularly happy.
We have two young kids, so of course clean water is incredibly important for their growing bodies. Living in an old farmhouse, I've also worried about copper and lead in the pipes that could leech into the water and affect their growth and development. I've gotten incredible peace of mind just by using this home water filtration system.
Reducing Single-Use Plastics
Another huge perk of using a gravity water filter is that we don't purchase nearly as much bottled water. For probably the past five years, we've been purchasing cases of water at Costco. That's silly for a couple reasons; first, we have lots of expensive stainless steel water bottles that we should be using instead. And second, single-use plastics are so bad for the environment! Now that we have a home water filtration system, I'll definitely be filling up those water bottles with our ProOne system instead.
The thing I am most surprised about is how much better our water tastes from the Big+ Gravity Water Filter! There is a significant difference in flavor when compared to our tap water. The Big+ size is perfect for our family of four, and ProOne offers other sizes depending on the size of your household.
I've been telling everyone I know about this water filter! It's stainless steel which makes it easy to clean and it looks nice in our kitchen. It would also be great for camping trips or travel as it's easy to take apart and haul. If you haven't visited the EWG's Tap Water Database to see how many contaminants are in your drinking water, I think you should. Even if you have well water, it's hard to know what's in your water and how it will affect your life in the long run. In my opinion, investing in a home water filtration system is so worth it!

Would be so excited to win this! Especially after having our power go out on monthers day yesterday 😞🥲 it was then that we realized we wouldn’t have clean drinking water from the fridge in case of emergency’s. Also living in Texas, we were apart of the big power outage that happened and the water coming from our tap was brown😳🫢 it’s definitely time for our family to switch to something more reliable for clean drinking water !!!

I have town water which has levels of contaminants in excess of recommended limits, so this would be great!

The water our our new place isn't great... it tastes terrible and smells a bit too. I just looked up the info on the EWG and it shows 20 contaminants with 10 exceeding EWG health guidelines. Ugh. This filtration system sounds like a great way to eliminate those contaminants and help keep my family safer. I love that its stainless steel. It looks easy to clean and maintain!
