5 Reasons to GREEN your cleaning routine, featuring Frosch

Have you thought about going green with your cleaning routine? I'm sharing 5 reasons why you should and how you can do it with the help of Frosch eco-friendly cleaners.

    frosch

I've teamed up with Frosch to share this information about green cleaning.

How many cleaners do you have in your home? If you're like most of us, you have a couple for the bathroom, a couple for the kitchen, one to make the glass shiny, and so on. You probably use several of them at once on cleaning day. But do you know what's in those brightly colored bottles? Those harsh chemicals and noxious fumes can be bad for your health and for the environment. Have you ever thought about going green with your cleaning products? Are you wondering why more and more people are looking for natural cleaning products? Here are five reasons you should consider going green with your cleaning routine.

    1.) Simplify Your Cleaning Routine

Have you looked at the shelves for commercial cleaning products lately? There's a cleaner for virtually every task you can think of – one for your shower, one for your toilet and yet another for your sink. I don't know about you, but I don't have time to sort through 10 different cleaners to find the one I need. Unfortunately, many conventional multipurpose cleaners use harsh chemicals that may damage some surfaces. A green multipurpose cleaner simplifies things so much. With milder ingredients, you can tackle multiple surfaces and cleaning jobs with one bottle as opposed to a basket full of cleaning supplies.

    2.) Create a Cleaner Environment

Each time you use conventional cleaning products, they release harmful chemicals into the air you breathe. When they're washed down the drain, they infiltrate the water systems, including the drinking water and local streams and lakes. Most green products are made using sustainable practices with ingredients that do not negatively impact the environment. Switching to green cleaners helps reduce pollution going into the water systems, and the air you breathe will be less polluted with volatile chemicals. Going green can also help you minimize waste, as many green cleaning products are packaged with recycled materials.

    3.) Avoid Anti-Bacterials

We have become germaphobes over the past few decades, but as it turns out, all those anti-bacterial products aren't good for us. Anti-bacterial soaps and products do not work better than regular soap, and even worse, they may be harmful to your health. They promote bacterial resistance to antibiotics, and triclosan, an antibacterial agent found in many cleaning products and soaps, may affect your hormonal system, reproductive system and thyroid. Most green cleaning products are free of antibacterial ingredients.

    4.) Have a Healthier Home

The chemicals in conventional cleaners can be absorbed into the skin and breathed into the lungs. Not only do they affect the person doing the cleaning, but other family members (like our children!) also breathe in and touch the lingering compounds. Sprays and aerosols are particularly harmful, as they contain volatile organic compounds that contribute to asthma and may affect the central nervous system, liver and kidneys in addition to the lungs. You may notice that the headaches, coughing and sneezing you and your family normally experience disappear when you make the switch to green products.

5.) Keep Kids and Pets Safer

Let's face it – pets and children often get into things that they're not supposed to touch no matter how well you've childproofed your home. Conventional cleaners are often flammable, toxic or both, and are incredibly dangerous to little ones who may come in contact with them. They can cause burns, skin irritation, eye irritation and breathing problems when inhaled, not to mention the risk of poisoning when ingested. While all cleaners should be kept of of reach of children and animals, you can rest just a little easier when using green cleaning products since they aren't quite as caustic. They are less toxic and less dangerous when you have little ones to worry about.

So, are you ready to make the switch?

Now that we've talked about WHY you should "green your cleaning routine," let's talk about HOW. I've used quite a few "green" cleaning products in the last few years and although some have been pretty good, others have really missed the mark. I keep trying them though, because I want what's best for my family and to limit my children's exposure to unnecessary harsh chemicals. When I received word that the Frosch brand was coming to the US, I didn't hesitate to review their products. As with cars and other items we've had in the past, German products usually exceed any expectations I might have.

    Frosch eco-friendly cleaners

    Frosch cleaners

The Frosch brand was launched in 1986 by Werner & Mertz to bring environmentally friendly cleaning products to the market that were able to compete with traditional cleaning brands, but without any compromise. Frosch has been voted Germany's most trusted brand by Reader's Digest for the past 15 (yes, FIFTEEN) years running. Frosch has firmly established itself as a mainstream brand in Europe, but it's never been available in the USA - until now.
I love that Frosch's philosophy is green to the core. From their LEED-certified headquarters to their production facility with its own water filtration-system, the company is of the philosophy that in order to be truly great environmental stewards, one has to make products that are appealing to masses. Frosch uses a 9-point system to identify its eco identity: use of natural ingredients, exclusive use of plant-based surfactants, skin-friendliness, avoidance of harmful chemicals, use of recyclable materials, no animal testing, sustainable and energy-saving manufacturing , water focus with their own water treatment plant, and over 25 years of experience.
Frosch was nice enough to send me their entire line to review and I was excited to put them to the test.

    Frosch Bathroom Cleaners

Since my least favorite thing to do (EVER) is clean the bathrooms, I figured I'd start with those. I grabbed the Lemon Shower and Bath Cleaner, Lemon Toilet Bowl Cleaner, and Bio Spirit Glass Cleaner and got to work. I have a real hang-up about toilets. I feel like they can never get clean enough and I especially dislike the design of most toilet bowl cleanser bottles. All too often the nozzle scrapes up against the toilet bowl and then you're left with a germ-laden bottle of cleanser to do what with? Store under the sink... spreading germs to your towels and toiletries?! It just grosses me out! That's why I LOVED (and yes, I'm shouting that) that the Frosch Lemon Toilet Bowl Cleaner comes with a cap! Be still my germaphobe heart.

    frosch cleaning products

The bathroom cleaners were impressive. They cleaned as well, if not better, than the mainstream brands we'd been using. Plus, the lemon scent was fantastic. Strong, but not overpowering and so refreshing.

    Frosch Spray Cleaners

Next, I moved onto the kitchen. I used the Grapefruit Kitchen Cleaner and Baking Soda All Purpose Cleaner and started tackling our countertops and appliances. They cut through grease and didn't leave behind any residue, which was what I hated most about the bleach based cleanser I had been using. The kitchen surfaces looked, smelled, and felt great. To clean our stovetop and sink, I used the Lemon Cream Cleaner and thought it worked great! It wasn't too abrasive, but it removed burnt-on food and grime.

    eco friendly dish soap

I was also really excited to see the dish soaps in the Frosch line. I'd been using a popular mainstream brand for years, but I'd rather use something more eco-friendly, especially since I need to wash our little baby's bottles. Again, I was impressed that the Frosch dishwashing gel stood up to the mainstream brand. It got our bottles and dishes perfectly clean. BUT,  that's not where I was SUPER impressed...

You know how you get "immune" to seeing the same thing over and over and it becomes sort of normal? Well, our kitchen faucet has always been kind of dingy looking. I think it's because when we turn the water on to wash our hands or dishes (or whatever!), that the soap or whatever we're trying to rinse off just runs down the handle and sticks to the faucet. It is what it is, but I hadn't really looked at it closely since I've been in my new baby haze. Well, let me tell you - it was disgusting! I sprayed it down with the Grapefruit Kitchen Cleaner and it was like a miracle occurred. The caked-on grime just fell away.

    before after clean

Don't judge me for that before photo!
It's totally clean now and it will stay that way thanks to these Frosch products!

I was genuinely impressed by every single one of the Frosch products in their line-up. I can certainly see why they're consistently voted Germany's most trusted brand of cleaning products and I will be purchasing these products from now on (especially since they're available via Amazon Prime!). Purchasing eco-friendly cleaners from Frosch is just one small thing I can do for my family and environment, and I don't have to sacrifice in the results department.

Buy it: You can purchase Frosch on their website and on Amazon.com.

Win it: One person will win the ENTIRE line-up of Frosch USA products!

I'll be honest with you, normally I don't read reviews, but I actually did read this. I am super interested in green products, especially since I have been diagnosed with asthma and COPD. i've been told I have the lungs of an 80 years old, and I'm only 40. That being said, I loved the fact about not having harsh fumes and actually being and feeling clean in my environment. this means the world to me. I want to have a long life for my husband, and cleaning with regular cleaners, makes me cough and sneeze and wheeze so horribly bad.

Keeping my kids safe is definitely my main priority when choosing cleaners. I love that all of their products are natural and safe, and I bet they clean fantastically as well!

I've never been big on disinfectants or anti-bacterials, honestly I never purposely buy anything that states either word. I love cleaning with distilled white vinegar and baking soda, it works wonders on so many various things from getting crayon off the walls to soaking aka stripping cloth diapers and so much more!

The lavender sanitizing cleaner caught my eye, I'm constantly using sanitizing wipes to keep stuff clean from my 10.5month old daughter but I'm concerned about chemicals and this seems perfect.

I love your review and that is simplifies cleaning meaning not needing so many harsh cleaners and the are kid and pet friendly and I have both and it always worries me that stuff I use can harm them. I have tried other less harsh brands but their cleaning capabilities were less then ideal.

I have been trying natural cleaners. I mostly have been let down by the window cleaners. I would love to try their window, well really their entire line.
