Girl Bedroom Makeover Featuring Lorena Canals Washable Rugs

Our five year old daughter is transitioning into her own, newly remodeled, bedroom! It's been a couple months in the making but things are finally coming together and I have to say, I'm loving it. It's the childhood bedroom of my dreams and she thinks it's the coolest room ever (mom win!). So when I say this room has been a couple months in the making, I'm not exaggerating. This used to be our bedroom, but we live in a very old 1 ½ story house and the closets in this room are more suited for kids. They run along each wall where the roofline is, and it's my dream to eventually turn them into "secret hideouts" for our daughter and son. (Future blog post? Very possibly!) Anyway, we recently took apart our king bed frame and moved it into the room next door so I could start remodeling this room for our daughter.

Then, it was time to start choosing colors, getting her set up with her very own bed, and decorating. We decided to go with a light mint color for the walls because I thought it went well with the (already) white trim. Plus, a mint/white/pink bedroom popped up on Pinterest awhile back and inspired me with this color palette. I wish I'd taken a "before" picture of this room because the paint job improved it by 100% even prior to decorating!

As we were decorating and adding pieces to the room, I realized just how blah and empty the floor looked. Everyone likes their room to have a bit of comfort, and I knew it was time to find a big, soft rug! I immediately thought of Lorena Canals for a couple of reasons. First of all, and possibly most importantly, their rugs are machine-washable. Yes, you read that right-when your rug gets dirty, you can toss it in the washing machine and it comes out like new! With kids, this is a HUGE deal for our family.

Not only is it safe for our kids to lay on but it's also safer for the Earth since it's not polluting with toxic dyes.

For its size (5'3" x 5'11") it's very lightweight. Since it's machine-washable I think that's important because some rugs can be SO heavy. This rug is very light and will be easy to take downstairs to put in the wash. It's also a beautiful light pink color which complements the whole room. It pulls together our mint/white/pink theme and our daughter loves it!

Each one of these rugs is handmade, so there may be slight variations in the color or shape. I found ours to be true to color and shape as the listing online. The puffy heart-shaped pillow is attached to the rug and makes such a fun reading spot! I can't count the number of times I've found our kids reading or playing on the rug since we got it.
