Fall is right around the corner (with the weather in Minnesota it feels like it's here already!). For our family autumn means lots of fun activities as the trees change colors and the weather gets cooler. We love making bucket lists and checking things off, so we made a free printable of our favorite fall fun bucket list ideas to share with you! Plus, I've partnered with Step2 to show you their Whisper Ride Touring Wagon which is our favorite way to haul the kids around these days.
We had so much fun making a summer bucket list this year that the next obvious step was to make one for fall! We've already started checking things off our fall bucket list and we made it a free printable that you can download too!)
Fall Fun Bucket List Ideas for Families
Visit a Pumpkin Patch. This is one of our kids' favorite activities! We love to pick out our own pumpkins and other fall decorations. They usually have really fun activities for the kids also, like an animal petting zoo or hay slides.
Drink Apple Cider. There's no better treat than a warm apple cider on a cool fall day! Our kids will get to experience this for the first time this year, and I'm sure they'll love it.
Go to an Apple Orchard. Another one of our favorite fall activities is going to an apple orchard. We love to pick our own apples right off the trees. Plus they always have so many varieties of apples that we can't find in the grocery store.
Jump in a Pile of Leaves. Rake up a giant pile and jump right in! Sure, it's messy, and a little counter-productive when you're trying to clean up a yard. But it's so worth it for the excitement kids get out of it.
Splash in Rain Puddles. While the weather is getting cooler, it can still be fun to put on rain boots and jump in some puddles before the winter comes.
Carve a Pumpkin. Our daughter will carve her first pumpkin this year! When our kids are younger we like to have them paint pumpkins but we are excited to carve our own pumpkins this year also.
Go Trick-or-Treating. Family favorite, of course. It's so fun to get the kids dressed up and watch them go door-to-door. Our daughter looks forward to Halloween ALL year.
Make Leaf Art. Our favorite easy leaf art is simple. Grab a few leaves, put a piece of paper over top, and go to town with a crayon. The veins and edges of the leaves come through on the paper!
Roast Pumpkin Seeds. I remember doing this as a kid and I'm excited to start the tradition with my kids too. After carving pumpkins, we'll save the seeds and roast them with a little oil and salt. Plus, I recently heard they're really good for you!
Watch a Football Game. Whether you tailgate or just curl up on the couch with some game-day snacks, it's always fun to root for your favorite team.
Go on a Hay Ride. We usually try to go to a fall festival that has activities like hay rides. Even as an adult, I enjoy climbing up on hay bales and riding behind a tractor. Maybe it's nostalgia, but it sure is fun!
Make S'Mores. Roasted marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers = a tasty fall treat. Our kids always make a huge mess but they're so good, who can resist?
Have a Campfire. To go hand-in-hand with s'mores, you need a campfire! We like to sit around the fire in the evenings when the nights get crisp and cool.
Take a Nature Walk. We live in a fairly rural area so we don't have to travel far to get into nature. We love to walk on the local Wobegon Trail with our kids. It's fun to look out for small animals or birds and collect leaves or rocks on our walk.
Bake Apple Dumplings. Bring those apples from the orchard home and cook up some delicious dumplings with help from the kids!
Make a Scarecrow. This is a really fun craft idea for kids and it looks cute as a fall decoration, too! We like to use old clothes that the kids have stained or grown out of. One year we even used a doll from a garage sale and dressed it up!
Explore a Corn Maze. Corn mazes are hard! But they're also a lot of fun, and it's great to watch the kids weave their way through corn stalks trying to make it to the exit first.
Visit a County Fair. We love taking the kids to the county fair each year. They enjoy the livestock barns and the various kids' activities. Their favorite part (of course) is the cotton candy and rides - we always have a blast!
Make Pumpkin Pancakes. When we go to a pumpkin patch we always buy a couple baking pumpkins for pies and pancakes. The kids help gut the pumpkins and the taste is oh-so-fall!
Create a Fall Wreath. We love hanging a wreath for each season on our front door. Sometimes we use things from nature, like pine boughs and colorful leaves, and sometimes we head to the craft store. Either way we have fun making it and get lots of compliments when people come to visit!
Host a Costume Party. We usually have friends over around Halloween and everyone dresses up. My favorite part is making family costumes so we all coordinate.
Make a Gratitude Jar. This is something we should do year round, but I always think of it in the fall. We make a little jar and write things we're thankful for, and then share them at dinner on Thanksgiving.
Eat a Caramel Apple. I love caramel apples! We usually buy them at a fall festival but this year I think we'll try making our own, too.
Go to a Fall Festival. It's always fun to head to a fall festival and experience the music, changing leaf colors, and various activities. Our kids always get their faces painted and enjoy the yummy apple and pumpkin treats that taste so great in autumn.
Step2 Whisper Ride Touring Wagon
We recently got to try out Step2's Whisper Ride Touring Wagon and it's become our favorite mode of transportation for the kids. I'm planning to bring it along to help us check things off our fall bucket list this year! I've found that a wagon is the best way to bring kids on uneven terrain. When we go to festivals, county fairs, pumpkin patches, and apple orchards, a wagon makes so much more sense than a stroller. The Whisper Ride Touring Wagon is the perfect fit for our family and it's so versatile!
Our kids are four and almost two, and they fit perfectly in the seats of the wagon. I appreciate that each seat has a buckle because our little guy would climb out otherwise. The canopy is removable which is a nice feature. Most of the time we like to keep it attached but sometimes the kids want it off so they can see more.
The various cup holders (for adults and kids) are handy when we're out and about. One of my favorite features are the removable table surfaces so the kids can have a snack and then we can store the table surfaces in the side of the wagon when they're done. My kids have to snack wherever we go (other parents can identify, I'm sure!) so this is a nice feature to have.
When we travel we like to bring the Whisper Ride Touring Wagon and the handle folds underneath to make it easier to haul. It's not very heavy, at just 28 pounds, so that's great for weaklings like me 😉
The wagon has large 10 inch wheels and steers like a dream, even over bumpy surfaces. We find that it's great for places with gravel or rough terrain and drives smoother than a stroller. Plus our kids can see everything when riding in the wagon so they're not as keen to get out and walk (or in the case of our little guy, RUN).
I talked a little about the versatility of this wagon before, but I wanted to expand on that a bit. The sides and canopy are removable, and the table surfaces help convert the Whisper Ride Touring Wagon to a flatbed! This comes in handy for me when gardening or hauling things from one location to the other. I just take off the sides, put the table surfaces in place, and can haul up to 100 pounds on the flatbed!
We love Step2's Whisper Ride Touring Wagon and I can't wait to take it on all kinds of adventures this summer! We have a lot planned and our weekends are filling up fast. I can't wait to start checking things off our fall bucket list! Don't forget to download the free printable so you can complete the bucket list too.
You can purchase the Whisper Ride Touring Wagon from Step2 and Amazon!
Disclosure: I received the Whisper Ride Touring Wagon at no cost to create a fall bucket list and facilitate an honest review. All opinions are my own.
