Fall is in the air! We're showing you how to embrace the season by making colored pancakes with cookie cutters in cute fall shapes and colors! These fall pancakes were a hit with our kids and I'm sure yours will love them too.
I love to create special, festive meals for my family. I think it makes the seasons a little more fun to embrace them and switch up our menu based on what's happening outside our doors. When back to school started to approach, I started brainstorming ideas to welcome fall and came up with this fun fall colored pancake concept.
How to make colored pancakes
To get started, I simply used a boxed pancake mix. You can certainly make your pancake batter from scratch, but since my kids like the boxed mix so much, I went with it. Since I was pouring the batter into leaf cookie cutters, I wanted the batter to be thick so I refrigerated it overnight so it wouldn't be runny and escape out of the forms.
To get a variety of beautiful hues, separate your batter into smaller bowls and add a bit of food coloring. We used this variety of Liqua-gel coloring, but any food coloring will do.
I used my Mrs. Anderson leaf cookie cutters, which are small and just the perfect size for little ones (there are also some adorable shapes for Christmas if you're thinking ahead).
You'll cook your pancakes according to the package directions but carefully pour the batter into the cookie cutters. Let them set up within the cookie cutters, then flip them while still inside the forms. If they aren't filled enough to touch the skillet when flipped, the rising heat will cook them the rest of the way.
I garnished these beautiful colored pancakes with some frozen blueberries and a little bit of powdered sugar.
They came out perfectly and are so festive!
