Are you building a children's library? If you're trying to pick out those perfect first books for baby, I've got a full list of the best boards books for babies and toddlers.
Best Board Books
When I was expecting and assembling our baby registry, I simply added books that seemed familiar or popular. For some reason, it didn't occur to me that I'd need sturdy, heavy-duty board books. I received a ton of Dr. Seuss books and many, many others with paper pages that were quite expensive... fast forward to our 1-year-old completely shredding them, and my love for board books was born. We've amassed quite a collection since then, so here is a list of favorites.
My Big Animal Book: This is one of my son's absolute favorite books. It's full of bright, bold photographs of different types of animals. From family pets to barnyard animals and beyond, this book covers them all. The names of the animals are written underneath each photo to help your little one with name recognition and building their vocabulary.
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? Probably one of the most classic, books around, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" is not to be overlooked. Your child will love the brightly colored animals (even if they are quite imaginative - hello, blue horse and purple cat!). It's highly engaging and your child will likely read it again, and again, and again.
Peek-A Who?: This simple, rhyming board book has a die-cut hole, behind which are different characters that will delight and intrigue your child. The text is short, which is great if you've got a rapid page turning child {like mine!}.
Where Is Baby's Belly Button? A Lift-the-Flap Book: This adorable board book is filled with cute babies that will interact with your little one in a fun game of peekaboo. There are easy-to-lift flaps that will help your baby learn their body parts. It's just the right length to keep your child turning the page, but not so long that they'll get bored.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (Chicka Chicka Book): "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" is just plain awesome. Read along as this full cast of lower-case letters races to the top of the coconut tree. I t's fantastic for helping your child learn the alphabet, plus the illustrations are wonderful.
Goodnight Moon: A total classic, "Goodnight Moon" has been loved by generations of readers and little listeners. The wording and gentle illustrations are the perfect ending to your child's busy day.
Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site: If your little one loves trucks and such, this is definitely the bedtime story for him or her! One by one, they'll say goodnight to the crane truck, cement mixer, dump truck, bulldozer, and excavator as they finish their work and lie down to rest so they'll be ready for another day of construction play. It's got a lovely rhyming text that you'll love to read aloud to your child.
Little Blue Truck Board BookThis board book is a valuable addition to any library and will help your child learn about different animals and the sounds they make. It also teaches wonderful lessons about friendship and being helpful.
First 100 WordsThis is probably one of THE best board books we own. I haven't been disappointed by a Roger Priddy book yet. In this brightly colored book, your child will learn 100 words and pictures that are familiar in their day to day life. The photographs are excellent quality and the books are surprisingly engaging. I've read this books easily 1,000 times and I'm still not bored with it.
Harold and the Purple Crayon Board BookThis book is an absolute delight! Young Harold decides to go for a moonlit walk, and with his trusty oversized purple crayon he soon draws himself a landscape full of excitement. Harold will show your child that anything is possible with a little imagination.
Guess How Much I Love You: This lovely little board book is a perfect expression of the love between a child and parent. It's simple, sweet, and the illustrations are soft and sweet as well.
The Very Hungry CaterpillarNo child's library would be complete without The Very Hungry Caterpillar! This hungry little caterpillar will eat his way right into your child's heart. The story is witty and the illustrations are colorful and bright. A total classic!
The best part about these board books is that they're usually priced between $4-$10, so you can create an entire library without spending a fortune! Books are truly an investment in your child's future, so don't miss these!

This is a great list. Thanks for sharing. I actually have quite a few of these, but I'll be looking for the others - probably at the library.

We love little blue truck, we have the original, into the city and got the Christmas one on clearance and saving for next Christmas. We will need to get the goodnight, goodnight construction site, because our bedtime books need some more variety. ? Could you consider doing a genre list of favorite board books and one be best bedtime books? My sons favorite right now was a 2yr bday present. It's a music touch button book for Jesus loves me. ?
