When I was creating my baby registry, all of the "must-have lists" included a play yard, and like most expecting parents I dutifully added one to my registry. I didn't know that BABYBJÖRN, the brand known for their iconic baby carriers, had a travel crib, let alone the best travel crib on the market. I've partnered with the brand to tell you all about the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light.
Best Travel Crib
BABYBJÖRN was created in 1961 with the concept, “To make life easier for families with small children by developing safe and innovative products of the highest quality for children up to three years.” Today, Baby Bjorn produces a wonderful range of baby items including carriers, bouncers, high chairs, potties, cradles, and the fantastic Travel Crib Light 2.
After using our basic play yard, I was disappointed in the complicated setup and breakdown of the product and didn't think my baby was very comfortable. When traveling, he'd start the night out in the play yard, but inevitably he'd be restless and would end up in the bed with us. I thought that there had to be a better option and once I saw the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light, I thought it might be the perfect solution!
I was sent a Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light to review
This Baby Bjorn Travel Crib weighs just 11 pounds and is light enough to take anywhere. It comes perfectly packaged in a convenient carrying case with two handles. Thanks to the innovative design of the Travel Crib Light, it folds very compactly, allowing it to sit right inside of the crib mattress. When folded and inside of the carrying case, the Travel Crib Light measures 24 x 19 x 6 inches.
Setting up the Travel Crib Light could not be easier. I was amazed at how quick and easy the setup was! It took me just seconds to pop the crib open and lay the mattress inside. No locking rails into place or attaching parts. I didn't even need to open the manual - it was totally intuitive! Its minimal-space design makes this crib ideal for traveling. It measures only 45 x 31.5 x 25.5 inches when opened.
The Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light features a mattress with a built-in base to keep the crib firmly stationed on the floor. The mattress is absolutely wonderful! It's SO much softer than our standard play yard's mattress and is insulated to keep baby warm and snug. The mattress also has a great removable, waterproof cover.
The machine-washable cotton and polyester fabrics provide a safe, soft sleep surface. The breathable fabric sides of the Baby Bjorn travel crib are 35% cotton and 65% polyester. There is an awesome mesh panel made of 100% polyester, which is perfect for keeping an eye on your little one. All of the fabrics that come into contact with baby have been tested and approved in accordance with Oeko-Tex Standard 100, class 1 for baby products. They're guaranteed to be harmless to children’s sensitive skin and will not trigger allergies.
The soft cloth edges on the inward sloping sides offer a snug and cozy feeling for baby. I absolutely love that there are no hard edges for baby to fall into when he tips or falls over. The fabric sides are completely flexible to keep your baby safe.
This travel crib can be used for newborns and up, until around the age of three. As you can see in the photos below, it's very roomy. My t10-month-old old (31 inches long) has plenty of room and is quite comfortable. Just a note, there is an organic sheet manufactured by Baby Bjorn for the Travel Crib Light. I don't have one of those, but I found that a snug-fitting standard crib sheet fits this quite well.
The fabric of the Travel Crib Light is also machine washable! There is a hidden zipper on each side of the upper edge of the crib that you'll undo and then wash according to the directions. My teething little guy loves to stand in the crib and gnaw on the sides, so I LOVE that it's machine washable (thank you BABYBJÖRN!).
Taking down this crib really could not be easier. For the photos below, I simply removed the mattress then turned the Travel Crib Light upside down. Just release each leg by pulling up and outward, then fold it diagonally.
Repeat this for all four legs. Then just fold the crib in half and that's it! The folded crib will fit right inside of the folded mattress to be slipped back into the carrying case.
Another thing I love about this crib is that it provides a safe place for my little guy to play. Now that he's pulling up on everything and cruising, he's very accident prone. I'm terrified that he's going to fall and hit his head on the hard tile floor that covers the majority of our home. The Travel Crib Light gives him a soft, confined area to play in.
Overall, I can't sing enough praises for this item. It is THE best travel crib out there. This is probably one of the best pieces of baby gear that I've ever had the pleasure of using. It's lightweight, super portable, and a breeze to set up. My little one sleeps SO much better in this crib! I'd highly recommend bypassing cheaper brands and investing in this high-quality, sturdy and comfortable travel crib.
UPDATE (1/11/18): I've had this crib for almost 5 years now. I used it quite often with my son and then my daughter once she was born. We loved this travel crib so much that we even got a second one to leave at my parents' home for visits. I've recommended this crib countless times to family and friends and think it's worth every penny.

There are so many things to like about the BABYBJORN Travel Crib. I love that fact that it is so lightweight and folds us to fit inside the mattress. I also like that it is machine washable; so helpful. Thank you for your informative review.

This is such a great travel crib its better than any baby travel crib I've seen yet I love how you can use it up to three years old and my favorite feature is the hidden zipper and that you can unzip to wash very sturdy and easy fold down gotta love it

Awesome crib! I definitely could use a new travel crib for our next baby, as I also was disappointed in our current travel crib/play yard-my daughter HATED laying in it. This one looks super easy to assemble/take apart and I like the fact that there's the machine-washable feature 🙂

WOW. I have never heard of a play yard/crib like this that can be unzipped for washing! That is what gets me about the use of these for year and multiple children...the germs and ick. How great is that!

Holy moly! Look how small that folds up! We have a playyard but my husband and I felt like dummies the first time we were setting it up because the directions were terrible. And it is definitely not this compact and travel friendly when it folds up. I'd love to have one!

I can't believe that the BABYBJORN Travel Crib folds down to take up so little room. Our travel bed is so large when we take it down, IF we could even get it down. It certainly wasn't easy and that's another thing I like about the travel crib. Thank you for your review.
