I've teamed up with Little Pim to bring you this review.
Like most parents, I want to give my child every opportunity to grow to his fullest potential. When you're dealing with young minds, the sky is the limit! Since we're living in a great melting pot of cultures, I definitely want my little guy to learn at least one other language. Research has shown that learning a foreign language comes naturally to children when they are introduced to it at an early age, so I've already started with Little Pim!
Little Pim believes that children deserve to learn a second language at the age they learn best - between 6 months and 6 years. Little Pim utilizes the Entertainment Immersion Method®, which integrates the latest scientific research regarding kids’ language learning and brain development. Each of their educational DVDs has a unique, child-friendly theme, such as eating, playtime and feelings. The method teaches 360 words and phrases, which provides the essential building blocks for language development. Little Pim offers animated and live-action videos, along with musical CDs, books, and phrase cards as easy and fun ways to teach your child a new language.
I had the opportunity to review the Spanish Intro Gift Set with Book:
I specifically chose Spanish since we live in Florida and often come into contact with Spanish speaking only families. I think learning Spanish will be very valuable to my little guy in the future, and I could use a bit of Spanish education myself.
This gift set includes:
- 1 Spanish DVD (Wake Up Smiling)
- 1 book (Colors)
- 1 Spanish Bop music CD featuring Dan Zanes and Milkshake
- A 9" velvety soft plush Little Pim panda
- A fun, see-through Little Pim tote bag
The series' teacher, Little Pim is an animated panda bear that will engage your children as he teaches them the basic building blocks of a foreign language. The DVDs also features real kids as they go about their daily routines, while Little Pim introduces the simple words and phrases that correspond to their activites.
The "Wake Up Smiling" DVD included in this set features Little Pim and children, as they learn all about the joys of waking up to a brand new day. Your child will follow along with them as they wake up, brush their teeth and hair, get dressed and ready for the new day. This DVD will introduce your child to 60 words and phrases (there are 6 DVDs for each language, each introducing your child to 60 different words and phrases). To accommodate the shorter attention spans of young children, the Little Pim DVDs are broken into short, 5 minute segments. We usually watch 2-3 segments at a time depending on how long my little guy will sit still. He's definitely entertained and captivated by Little Pim when he's onscreen! We've watched this DVD several times and I'm beginning to use the words and phrases in our daily routine to reinforce what we've learned.
The book included with this package, "Colors," is fantastic! It features Little Pim, as he hunts for different colored balloons. The illustrations are absolutely wonderful and the book has translations for English, Spanish, AND French! The book has sliding tabs and flaps for your child to open so they're continually engaged. My son LOVES this book!
The CD, "Spanish Bop" includes songs by Dan Zanes & Friends and Milkshake. There are 15 great songs featured on this CD and each one is sung by native Spanish speakers. The CD also includes a booklet with all of the lyrics to the songs which is a huge help for me. The vocabulary words that we've seen in the DVD are highlighted so I can easily find them and emphasize them. According to Little Pim, "Music is a great way to enhance kids' language acquisition - hearing words in a new context increases their likelihood of understanding and remembering the words." My little guy really enjoys listening to this CD and it's become a permanent fixture in our car.
The Little Pim plush and see through tote bag that round out this set are also great! My little one has really taken a liking to Little Pim and I love having the plush toy for him to play with. It's also great for pretend play when I speak Spanish through the plush toy to reinforce the words and phrases we've learned through the DVD, CD, and book. This set would make such a wonderful gift and can be purchased for only $39.95!
Overall, I'm extremely happy with the experience we've had with Little Pim! I'm definitely planning on purchasing more of the DVDs and would also love to get the learning phrase cards!

I took several years of Spanish in High School and College, but through lack of using it I still can't speak it fluently enough to teach my son and future TWIN sons. I'd love to teach them a second language as early as possible because I know it's easier for them to learn.
