Tortuga 1667 is one of the most popular games on Kickstarter right now! It is a pirate game made with beautiful artwork, high quality pieces, and intriguing objectives where you to work together to steal treasure as pirates sailing the waters of the Caribbean!
Don't you love a good game night with friends!? There are few things we love more in the winter months than gathering with a few of our friends with our favorite board games. We bring snacks and we stay up way too late for being parents with small children, but we really look forward to it is often as we can. We're really into this game called Salem, which is a lot like Mafia, and have enjoyed teaching our friends how to play, so we were thrilled to hear that the creators, Facade Games, have created their second game in the trilogy! Tortuga is on Kickstarter right now (and smashing all expectations), and here is your chance to get your hands on it yourself!
First off, I am really digging every element of design in this game. Tortuga 1667 is composed of simple tokens with a burlap pouch to store them in, hand-drawn artwork on 64 high quality cards, a rulebook, a rubber board that rolls up like a treasure map, 9 wooden pawns, 8 wooden treasure chests, and my favorite feature, a faux book box.
The book case is compact and looks authentic so you can hide the game on your bookshelf rather than shove it in your messy game closet. I like that it is easy to bring along to game nights, sleepovers, and vacations since it remains closed with magnets and that it can easily fit in a purse or backpack.
I love the simplicity of the pieces in contrast to the incredible artwork!! I'm so happy Facade Games has used their same artist who illustrated their first game, Salem, because she really knocks it out of the park with her work. These cards really bring to life the lives of pirates of the 1600's, which you have the opportunity to become in Tortuga. Each pirate is based on a real pirate who roamed Tortuga and the Caribbean seas in the year 1667.
I'm so intrigued by this rubber board mat that can roll up like a treasure map. It allows the game to be compact, while the board is flexible and still very sturdy.
Event cards help your team get treasure or maroon other members to the island of Tortuga. While each player has a secret loyalty, someone claiming to share your loyalty may stab you in the back and steal your treasure!
Aren't you anxious to learn how to play?! There are more details on the Kickstarter page and here is a video that will give you an idea of the intrigue and deception that come into play:
We can't wait to get our hands on this game! Because it can be played with 4-9 players (ages 12+), it feels like the ultimate group game night hit and with a playing time of 20-40 minutes, you can fit in a few rounds at a time.
