The wonderful thing about living in Florida is that you're usually within driving distance to the beach and the weather is pretty much warm and lovely year round. The wonderful thing about living in southwest Florida is that those things are totally amplified and you feel like you're on vacation all of the time. Living right outside of Fort Myers, we're a stone's throw away from the gorgeous waters of the Gulf Coast beaches and the Caloosahatchee River. Plus, there are countless parks, restaurants, and fabulous shopping venues.
Since we're able to be outside year round, we're constantly on the go. This can be a bit of a challenge with a toddler in tow, but we try to make the best of it. When Summer Infant offered to send me their new 3D lite Convenience Stroller to stroll around the lovely city of Fort Myers, I jumped at the opportunity. As a review blogger, I've tested a number of fancy do-it-all strollers, but never a convenience stroller. I was excited to see if it really would make my life a little easier. Of course, the first place I wanted to stroll was Fort Myers Beach.
To get to Fort Myers Beach you'll have to travel via the Matanzas Pass Bridge (also known as the Sky Bridge). The bridge separates the beach from the mainland and offers lovely views of the water. There are great little restaurants around here (one of my favorites for atmosphere is Doc Ford's) and even fishing piers below the bridge. There's a pedestrian lane on the bridge so you can get to the beach by car or foot. I decided this would be a great first test for our Summer Infant 3d lite stroller. I loaded my little guy into the stroller, placed my bottle of water in the included cup holder (score!) and we went on our way. He loved being able to see the water from all angles and screamed "wa wa" at the top of his lungs.
Next up, actually hitting the beach. I found a nice shady spot to park under the bridge and unloaded our beach gear onto our Summer Infant 3D lite stroller. With my little guy sitting in the stroller, I was able to hang our beach tote, bag of toys, and a small cooler from the handles without the stroller tipping over. It was really nicely balanced. Just make sure to unload the bags before taking your child out of the stroller or it will tip backwards. We rolled to the beach in style with our Citrus 3D lite stroller. I just love the bright color - it's perfect for Florida. People gave me a weird look when I rolled the stroller onto the sand, but after releasing my little guy into the wild the stroller was light enough (even with our gear) to roll on the sand. This is where I loved having the velcro-closure storage pocket on the back of the stroller. I was able to keep my phone, wallet and keys sand free and safe.
The Wubba loves the beach and got himself good and tired in about an hour's time, so then we packed up all of our stuff and headed home. He enjoyed a nice smooth ride back to the car in his new 3D lite. While the canopy isn't the biggest, it's adequate enough to provide a good bit of shade.
Another place that you must visit when strolling around Fort Myers is the outlet mall. Fort Myers is lucky enough to have two outlet malls close by. The first are the Tanger Outlets on the way to Sanibel Island and the second (and better in my humble opinion) are the Miromar Outlets in Estero. The Miromoar Outlets have something for everyone! We spent a few hours shopping and loading up the basket on our 3D lite with bags - however our very first stop was the Crocs store since this mama forgot her little guy's shoes!
Besides all of the awesome retail shops, the Miromar Outlet is also peppered with fabulous fountains. The Wubba has a thing for water and can sit in front of these fountains and enjoy them for quite a while. This fountain is where we often sit and share an Auntie Anne's pretzel. I've navigated these outlets with other strollers on many occasions and I think it's safe to say that the Summer Infant 3D lite will be my stroller of choice to take there from now on. It handles well and it can roll through even the tightest aisles in stores. Plus, it's compact enough for many of the fitting rooms.
Now onto our very favorite place to stroll... Lakes Park! This truly fantastic park is comprised of 279 acres and features 158 acres of freshwater quarry lake. The lake boasts good fishing for bass, bream and other fresh and saltwater species also supports an array of wildlife, including alligators. Lakes Park is has a wide variety of birds including Ibis, Egrets, Herons, Cormorants and Anhingas. There are learning opportunities and things to see on every step of the 2.5 trail of paved or natural paths for walking, jogging, biking, and most other non-motorized activities. The Wubba especially enjoys learning about the birds!
Besides having scenic trails, a "Fragrance Garden," and a miniature railroad for kids to ride, Lakes Park also has two playgrounds. One of them is for younger kids and the other (featured above) continues the railroad them and it's HUGE. My little guy's face lights up when we stroll towards this playground and he'd spend the entire day here if I let him. When we arrived to the train playground, I simply unbuckled the 3D lite's buckle and he was able to get out of the stroller himself (and he promptly took off running!). I love that this stroller is so accessible for my little one.
Once we're done running around the playground, we always make our way to one of Lakes Parks' splash pads (they have two!). After a little rest and hydration while checking out the action in his 3D lite, the Wubba had a blast at the splash pad. It's such a great way to cool off.
After we're finished strolling, I love how easily the 3D lite folds. It's very lightweight thanks to it's aluminum frame and it's got a great shoulder strap so you can simply throw it over your shoulder and go. I imagine this would be great for flying and traveling through airports. I can't wait to see even more sights around Fort Myers with our 3D lite. We're already planning a trip to the Naples Zoo and to Busch Gardens so I'll definitely be including this stroller on my packing list.
