Sebo X4 Vacuum Review - Is it worth the hefty price tag?

This post may contain affiliate links. Click here for more information.

Is the Sebo X4 vacuum really worth the hefty price tag? I'll give you all the details about my experience and let you decide.

    Sebo X4 vacuum

I've always been a person that thought a vacuum was a vacuum. Are they really all that different? Does a $500+ vacuum really clean better than a $75 vacuum? When we moved into a bigger home last year, we needed a new vacuum and as fate would have it, I found a popular brand vacuum on clearance at our local big box retailer and scooped it up! It seemed almost too good to be true. Unfortunately, it kind of was. I didn't realize it at the time, but I bought a "city" model that was designed for smaller spaces. It was a canister model and the head of the vacuum was SO small. I eventually stopped using it and reverted back to using our cheap upright. That is when I realized - all vacuums are NOT created equally.

Luckily, Allergy Buyers Club came to my rescue and offered to send me a new vacuum to review! Allergy Buyers Club has been selling an assortment of fantastic products since 1998, helping people select items to help them have a healthier home. After talking with the lovely people at Allergy Buyers Club (you can do this online, right on their website in a chat box), we determined that an upright vacuum would be the best choice for me. I thought for sure I'd want a Dyson, but after discussing it further, they highly recommended the brand Sebo. I hadn't heard of this brand before but after reading some reviews from their website I was sold. The Sebo brand is viewed as the best manufacturer of upright vacuum cleaners in Europe and they are absolutely legendary for their durability! In fact, several of the team members at Allergy Buyers Club own them and use them in their own homes. Sebo is so confident in their products that they have a 5 year warranty on non-wear parts, motor and labor. If under warranty, SEBO will pay to pick it up, repair it, and return it for no charge.

    Sebo X4 Vacuum Cleaner Review

Allergy Buyers Club sent me a Black Sebo X4 Upright Vacuum Cleaner (free of charge in order to facilitate this review):

    Sebo vacuum cleaner

The Sebo X4 arrived double packaged to ensure it would be in perfect condition, which it was. Minor assembly was required but the process was very, very easy and I had the vacuum put together within a few minutes. The directions were easy to read and diagrams helped show where to snap the various pieces together.

    Sebo X4 upright vacuum

Once I got the Sebo X4 vacuum together, I stood back and admired the sleek design and color scheme. I thought this vacuum was going to be a bit bulky and heavy, but I was pleasantly surprised at how lightweight it is at 16.7 pounds. It's also very easy to push. Our home consists of a large amount of tile in the main living spaces, with thick carpet in the bedrooms, and laminate flooring in a few smaller rooms. Rather than sweep the tile or laminate surfaces, I prefer to just vacuum the whole house at once. This can be a bit of a challenge if you're not using the right vacuum. Often times when I try to vacuum crumbs and small particles on the tile surface, they appear to be gone, but then I find they were merely spit out the back of the vacuum. It's infuriating and I end up wasting time and energy. I was super excited to see that the Sebo X4 features an automatic carpet height adjustment. Without you having to do a thing, the Sebo X4 will adjust the brush roll to the correct height for cleaning any depth of carpet, rugs and bare floors.

    Sebo X4 upright vacuum

You can see in this photo that the front of the Sebo X4 features an information panel with indicator lights so you know when the brush head is moving up or down, when you need to check the brush, or when the bag is full or there's a clog. I think this is such a fantastic feature! It totally takes the guess work out of it and alerts you to a problem right away. Another thing I love about the head of the Sebo X4 is what I call the "rubber bumper". It's got a great rubbery coating around the edge that will protect your home and furniture from damage while vacuuming. I can't count how many times I've scuffed or dented our walls, molding, or furniture with our previous vacuums, so this was a big plus for me!

    Sebo X4 Vacuum head

You can see in the photo above that the Sebo X4 is low profile in that it only require about a 5.5 inch clearance to reach underneath furniture. The machine also bends way back - to 180 degrees actually - so you can slide it underneath beds and furniture to reach those extremely hard to reach places. The Sebo X4 features three on-board tools, including a crevice tool, upholstery tool, and small dusting brush. There are also other tools available for purchase if you're dealing with a special job.

    Sebo X4 Accessories

Now, let's talk about what makes the Sebo X4 upright the perfect choice for those wanting a healthier home. The Sebo X4 features the Sebo S-Class Filtration System. This means that dirt and dust is picked up then filtered through a 3-layer filter bag, electrostatic microfilter, and exhaust filter inside the vacuum cleaner. Any vacuum cleaners meeting the "S-Class" standards are equivalent to meeting HEPA requirements to filter out 99.97% of pollens, household dust, dust mites and other allergens as small as 0.3 micrometers in size! Plus, for particles 1 micrometer and larger, the filtration rate is 100%.

    Sebo X4 Filter Bag

The Sebo X4 vacuum bag and filter are located on the front of the machine, in an access panel that's easy to get to. The bags are also easy to change and are have a sealable filter so no dust or dirt will escape once sealed. The X4 comes with two bags but additional bags are available to order. Another great thing about the Sebo filtration systems is the reduced overall costs. No need to replace expensive HEPA filters every 6-12 months; Sebo recommends replacing the tubular microfilter and fine foam exhaust filter after using 10-20 vacuum bags.

So, how well does the Sebo X4 work? Extremely well! It has a powerful motor 1300 watt motor that products a great amount of air flow but still remains rather quiet (compared to my previous vacuum). The motor also features cut-out protection so if you pick up an item that might damage the motor, it will automatically cut-off. The Sebo X4 picked up everything every bit of dust and debris on all of our floor surfaces and it worked very well on our thick carpets thanks to the double row brush roll. I would definitely recommend a Sebo X4 if you're looking for a high-quality vacuum to keep your home as clean and allergen-free as possible.

Do you need a new vacuum?
What do you think of the Sebo X4 vacuum?

Disclosure: I received the Sebo X4 vacuum at no cost in order to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

I would LOVE to win the canister vac. I would actually have a vacuum again. Currently I have a three hundred dollar bissell healthy home that lives at my in-laws house. Seriously I have to 'borrow' my own vacuum. If I won I would take the canister vac (they don't like canisters so would probably let me keep it) and tell them they can keep the bissel. Not like I really get to use it anyway plus the thing stinks of dogs and cat litter. Yes they used MY vacuum on cat litter. I REALLY hope I win.

I am SO happy that someone is finally reviewing a vacuum! I've actually had fights with my hubby about vacuum cleaners...he says they're all alike and I'm just one to steal towards higher priced ones. Well...I've tried several types of vacuum cleaners and like you, have failed miserably. My son who's 6 now,has chronic lung disease (from being born at 23 weeks), we've just bought a foreclosed home with tile and carpet and need a very good allergy helping vacuum that will keep my son healthy and clean both carpet and tile...so thankyou very much for directing me towards this vacuum cleaner. I will definitely post this on my blog! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Oh, yes, I need a new vaccuum. I have a reactive airway and dust is my worst enemy. My vaccuum picks up a lot of dust but also leaves a lot behind. I have not found one that hasn't thrown some dust around and then of course, I react. My favorite feature is that it will adjust the brush roll to the correct height. No more throwing dust and hair out to the side. I would love to own this vacuum.

Many years ago, when I lived in Germany, I had a Sebo...it was amazing!! I wasn't able to bring it back to the States because it would have needed voltage adapters etc, and it would never have had the same power...I am VERY excited to see that they have them available for purchase here now - I'd rather buy a fantastic vacuum once, than the yearly purchase of the $150 ones that I seem to have to get each spring 🙂

I bought a very expensive model years ago and found that it wasnt any better than the $100.00 one I had replaced, plus the bags and other accessories that needed replacing bout every two months cost way more than my other cheaper model. I am still using te one I bought that was so expensive, but it has only gotten worse. I am going to check into a Sebo soon thanks to your review.
