I thought I was prepared for New England, having grown up in the Midwest with its harsh winters, but I was absolutely NOT prepared for the amount of snow we experienced in Boston last winter and for the temperatures of death here in New Hampshire. Most of the winter I think, "How/why does anyone live here?!" Its tradition to just keep the kids inside and never leave the house for as much of January and February as possible, but this year is different because I have two kids in preschool. Taking their little bodies outside exposes them to these horrific temperatures on every carpool and my son's school will only have indoor recess when the temperature is below some ridiculously low number. Brrrr!!! I had a little panic attack when the weather started turning and I set out to find some darn good coats for my kids. Its my job to protect them, and that includes protecting them from the weather! Thank goodness Hatley carries coats that are cute, machine washable, reversible, and have a temperature rating that is good down to 5 degrees F!
At no cost to facilitate this review, I was sent three coats from Hatley, and with them in our coat closet, I feel like I am armed and ready to face this winter head on. First, let me give you some background on Hatley and all the fabulous clothing items they carry.
The story behind Hatley is actually quite charming! Over 20 years ago, a husband and wife started selling paintings of cows and pigs above their gift shop, The Little Blue House. They created a line of aprons based on the artwork which quickly turned the cottage business into a company of farm animals and when their three sons took over the business, it blossomed into designs that are sold around the world, including an extensive children's line, comfy women's sleepwear, napkins, kitchen textile, mugs, and much, much more.
Basically anything you could want to wear can be found at Hatley. In the Womens department, you can find sleepwear, daywear, outerwear, beachwear, dresses, and tops. For boys and girls, you will find sleepwear, rain gear, and daywear in all sorts of adorable prints and vibrant colors, but my favorite place to look and shop right now is in the outerwear department where you can find these three coats that I reviewed, along with jackets, vests, zip-ups, boots, and even thermal layers!
Among the completely adorable outerwear options for Boys, the reversible winter puffers were calling our names and I thought this POLAR BEARS REVERSIBLE WINTER PUFFER suited my oldest boy perfectly.
Little Brother needed something just as cool and this GRAPHIC MOOSE REVERSIBLE WINTER PUFFER was just the ticket for him. He has hardly taken it off since it arrived!
Don't forget the baby! Could there be anything cuter than this GRAPHIC DEERS WINTER PUFFER? I'm dying here. So bright and so cozy!
These puffer coats are fantastic because they are waterproof and machine washable, made of 100% polyester and coated with a Teflon finish, and a 100% polyester insulation. This makes them strong while still super lightweight and hypoallergenic. Usually my boys will complain if their coats are too bulky or restraining, but they don't complain a bit about these. They really just jump at the opportunity to put them on again.
For toddlers and little boys who love to have some say in what they wear every day, these are the best things to ever enter our doors. There is no begging or threatening the kids that it is absolutely freezing outside and they have to wear a coat, I just ask them on which side they want to wear their puffer today, and they're excited to have a choice.
My boy's favorite feature on these puffers is the fleece lined pockets on both sides, in and out. Whichever way he wants to wear it, he's got a toasty place for chilly fingers. The zippers are large and plastic so they can zip them up themselves while I don't have to worry about fingers getting pinched in anything metal.
I still just love love love this baby puffer. I picked out a size 18-24 Months, even though Little B is only 10 months old, but it seems to fit perfectly fine, with room to grow so she can wear it next year too! My favorite feature is that the hands AND the leg openings can be folded over for warmth and containment. I'm so glad this this is also waterproof so that it will work great in the rain and snow, but also be able to handle baby spit up, baby food, runny noses, etc.
SO COZY! What strikes me most about Hatley and their products is that they are definitely built to last. Because quality is the key factor going into everything they make, these items are going to be worn by child number two, three, and four. Another perk is that they care about natural fibers and will never use PVC in their boots or jackets.
Hurray for Hatley! We're definitely staying warm this winter!

I live in NH and the winters are also quite brutal here, so bundling in 3 or 4 layers is a daily requirement. But those Jackets look like full blown parkas ermergersh!

The baby puffer is so convenient for taking those toddlers outdoors and not having to worry about them getting cold. I love the way they look too.
