It's Thank-o-Rama time! Every year, Mo Willems fans around the globe celebrate Thank-o-Rama in May. This month-long celebration was born from the final book in the Elephant & Piggie series, The Thank You Book. The premise is simple, it's a celebration of thanking everyone, especially children, for reading. Don't forget to check out the website to find more info about the tour and for fun Thank-o-Rama activities.
Do you know what my kids are thankful for? The newest addition to their library, Harold & Hog Pretend for Real! This new book from author and illustrator Dan Santat is part of the Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! series and my kids just adore these books. This is the 6th book in the early-reader series, which was created and co-edited by Mo Willems, and I was hopeful that they'd enjoy Harold and Hog Pretend for Real! just as much as the others. I'm thrilled to report that it did not disappoint.
The book is about two best friends, Harold (an elephant) and Hog (a pig), who pretend to be Elephant & Piggie. Hog is careful and Harold is carefree, which just so happens to be exactly the opposite of Piggie and Gerald. As the story goes on, you see the best friends come to realize that Hog is having a hard time pretending to be happy and carefree like Piggie, and Harold can't really come to terms with being careful like Gerald. So, what are they to do?! As you might have guessed, they swap roles with Hog pretending to be Gerald and Harold pretending to be Piggie.
The story is really fun and the illustrations are fantastic. Although the book is 64 pages long, it's an easy read for little readers and is aimed at kids ages 6 to 8. Harold & Hog Pretend for Real! is available in stores now and I'd highly recommend grabbing a copy for your home library. If your kids are like mine, they're going to want to read it over and over (and over again).
I'm so thankful my kids love to read and I wanted to encourage them to give thanks in honor of Thank-o-Rama month. We busted out our brand new Elephant & Piggie chalk and got to work making a list of all the things we're thankful for.
I asked my kids who and what they're thankful for and the list kept growing. It made my heart so full to see them list out friends and family members and some of their very favorite things. I think that making a Thank-o-Rama list will definitely become a yearly tradition from now on! Be sure to grab your copy of Harold & Hog Pretend for Real! It's available in stores and online now.
