Get a vintage glam look with this 1920's Flapper Costume and hairstyle. We'll show you how to achieve the look!
I've partnered with Lunchbox for this post.
I take Halloween very seriously! The diva in me will never turn down an opportunity to dress up and create something fantastic in the name of costumes and holiday festivities. I don't think I'll ever get tired of dressing up, but since I'm closer to 30 than 20 years old, I am adjusting my latest looks to be a little more sophisticated and ALL about the hair and makeup! With a killer hairstyle and some deliberate makeup, the sky is the limit on what you can be for Halloween! Everything you need to bring your costume to life can be found at Target, from dark and bewitching to creatively brassy, and I picked out a few of my favorite Suave®, e.l.f. Cosmetics, and Simple products to show you how to pull off a 1920's-vibe vintage hairstyle that is all that glam!
Vintage Glam Hairstyle and a 1920's Flapper Costume
To create the most glamorous 1920's look, I knew I needed the help of some makeup and hair products fit for a flapper. Great hair has a lot to do with the products you use, and Suave had everything I needed for the look I was going for and all of these are available at Target:
• Suave Professionals Luxe Styling Infusion Smooth Anti-Humidity Hairspray
• Suave Professionals Luxe Styling Infusion Soft & Defined Curls Gel Serum
• Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Shine Shampoo
The Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Shine Shampoo gave my hair a glossy (but not greasy) shine right out of the shower, and I feel like it locked in a lot of moisture that kept my hair from looking too dry. The real magic is in this gel serum, and it is fantastic! By running it through strands of hair and then twirling, this Suave Professionals Luxe Styling Infusion Soft & Defined Curls Gel Serum created perfect curls that I formed with my fingers in just exactly the style I wanted. It didn't feel tacky like hair gel, and it was strong while still light, and it really did a fantastic job at making soft and defined, 24-hour curls.
After applying the serum to individual strands of hair, I pinned up the curls and let them air dry for an hour or two. Sometimes I take a hair dryer to my pin curls, but that tends to create a lot of fly-aways. While I was waiting, it was makeup time! A glam updo will go far, but a striking costume is never complete without some dramatic makeup! This is the Glam e.l.f. Cosmetic Set Medium Multi-color, and it has some attractive essentials for your glamorous look, including a makeup brush, eyelid primer, lip stain, eyeliner, false eyelashes and glue, and a duo eyeshadow. LOVE the eyelid primer! Why have I not used something like this before? And just wait til you see the lip gloss! Vibrant as can be, and it lasted all day!
Before I started "painting", I made sure I had a fresh and clean base to work with. I like Simple products because they don't contain a bunch of unnecessary ingredients and these are so accessible (also available at Target):
• Simple Micellar Wipes
• Simple Micellar Facial Cleanser Water
• Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer
• Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash
I always start with a thorough face wash so that I don't have any leftover makeup from the day before underneath. The Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash is perfect for this, and a healthy application of the Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer ensures glowing results and makeup that will glide on and stay put. At the end of the night, I go straight for the Simple Micellar Wipes! These are fantastic at getting the thick and heavy eye makeup and foundation off.
To do this hairstyle, I gently gathered the curls to the side and then lifted a few pieces at a time and pinned them in place to create more body up top. Gather, lift, and pin, repeat. The loose curls at the end were pinned around the base of my neck and then I pulled out a few individual curls to make the poof as voluminous as possible. Add a rhinestone comb and spray it down with your Suave® Professionals Luxe Styling Infusion Smooth Anti-Humidity Hairspray! I couldn't be more pleased with how the ensemble all came together, and these hair, skin, and makeup products can take all the credit. I'm glad to have them around so that I can replicate this look for Halloween!
