You may remember I had the the pleasure of reviewing a red Lola Camera Bag from Epiphanie last fall. I had been dying for an Epiphanie bag and the Lola lived up to all of my expectations. It's a seriously fabulous bag! I had been planning on using my Lola on a few press trips, but unfortunately I broke my toe last month and was on crutches for a few weeks. I knew getting through the airport on crutches with my DSLR and accessories in tow wouldn't be easy. Then it occurred to me that a backpack would be the best solution! I reached out to the lovely people at Epiphanie to see if they'd accommodate me with one of their awesome Brooklyn Backpacks, and I was thrilled when they said yes. They sent me a Brooklyn Backpack at no cost to facilitate this review.
Epiphanie's Brooklyn is an awesome bag that converts from backpack to crossbody. It comes with two adjustable, detachable shoulder straps and an adjustable detachable, padded crossbody strap. I chose the Cobalt color, and I love it! It's the perfect shade of royal blue, and it's just what I wanted. It's constructed out of water-resistant, high-quality synthetic leather that is super easy to clean with a quick wipe down (perfect for on-the-go moms). It has antiqued brass hardware that makes a stylish statement. The first thing I noticed about this bag, besides it's stylish appearance, was the weight. It's not a lightweight bag, at 4 pounds, but it's nothing I can't handle.
The Brooklyn measures 14"L x 6.5"W x 14.5"H and is designed to carry ALL of your stuff, including a 15" laptop, iPad or tablet/eReader, camera + attached lens, 1 long lens, 1 short lens, flash, battery pack and wallet. I was so glad to see all of the storage pockets on this bag. The front of the bag has two front pockets with magnetic snap closures and a large slide-in pocket that's revealed when you open the front flap of the bag. The sides of the bag each have a roomy slide-in pocket and the back of the bag has a zippered pockets that's large enough to hold an iPad!
The Brooklyn bag features a zipper closure underneath the bag's top flap which is wonderful for keeping your expensive equipment safely inside. The interior of the bag is made up of ultra-soft beige fabric. I love the light color of the lining - it allows you to see what's inside your bag and quickly locate items you're looking for. There is one large, sewn-in foam panel separating the laptop section from the main compartment (pictured above is my 13 inch Macbook). There is a zippered interior pocket for keeping valuables safe. Then, inside the main compartment are four Velcro thickly padded panels (2 long and 2 short) that can be adjusted to any position. They can also be removed for extra space or so you can convert this to an everyday bag instead of a camera bag.
As you can see, the Brooklyn Backpack is a good-sized bag. It's large enough to hold all of your gear and then some! I found this bag to be perfectly sized for a carry-on on my last two plane rides. It fits underneath the seat or in the overhead compartment without issue and kept my laptop, iPad, camera, and extra lens safe and sound. Since I'm rather petite (at just about 5'4'') I do wish the shoulder straps were a tiny bit shorter. I like to wear my backpack kind of higher up on my back and even with the straps fully adjusted, I had a bit of slack.
Overall, I'm really enjoying this bag! This will be my go-to travel bag and camera bag from now on. I love how it keeps all of my equipment separate and safe and it doesn't look like a typical camera bag. The fact that it converts from backpack to cross-body is a big plus in my book. It gives you a lot of flexibility, plus it doesn't LOOK like a camera bag. It just looks like a super fabulous bag!
