I'm no stranger to hair dyers. I've had very long hair for my entire life and have spent thousands of hours styling my hair over the past three decades. I can't even count the number of hair dryers I've gone through in this time. I'm a little particular in this area since I have a few things that are must-haves, like a powerful yet quiet motor. Needless to say, I've cycled through quite a few. When I hear that Dyson was penetrating the beauty industry I was intrigued, and when Best Buy asked me if I wanted to receive a sample for a Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer review, I quickly got on board.

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer Review

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer has so many unique qualities that it's a total game changer. First off, the look is completely different. Rather that having a large motor in the head of the dryer, like so many others, Dyson has put the motor of the Supersonic in the handle. This completely rebalances the weight, making it so much easier to use and maneuver. It also significantly decreases the size and bulk of the dryer. It measures 9.6 x 3.1 x 3.8 inches, which is really compact. I think this hair dryer will be a lot easier to travel with.

As you can see, this hair dyer looks completely different than any others out there. It's got such a sophisticated design.

Circling back to the motor, it is fast. The controlled, high velocity airflow leads to ultra-fast drying time, which is a major perk for me since my hair can take a long time to dry. Even though it dries my hair quickly, I don't have to worry about heat damage. The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer has a sensor that measure the air temperature 20 times per second. This keeps the temperature even, which protects the hair's natural shine by avoiding extreme heat damage. There are 3 speed settings (fast drying, regular drying, and styling) and 4 heat settings (constant cold, low, medium, and high), so you can customize your drying experience.

The dryer comes with 3 magnetic attachments. This is such a cool feature. The attachments are so easy to put on and take off. It's really genius.

• The Dyson smoothing nozzle (which I use the most) dries hair gently using smooth, wide air. This allows you to dry and style at the same time.
• The Dyson styling concentrator uses high-velocity, focused air to style one section at a time. Now you can style just one small section without worrying about disturbing the rest.
• The Dyson diffuser is engineered to disperse air evenly around each of your ringlets. It simulates natural drying to help reduce frizz and improve definition of your curls.

When you're using the dryer without the attachments, the air flow is extremely powerful. So powerful that it can tangle my long hair since it whips around. I've found the attachments really help to prevent this.

What I love most about the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer is fact that it's been acoustically tuned. Even though the motor is powerful, it's tuned to produce one inaudible frequency and it’s enveloped by a vibration reduction system. Since I've got 2 young children, I'm constantly a little overstimulated in the noise department. The Dyson Supersonic is a welcome addition to my beauty routine since it's a bit quieter than most of dryers on the market.

Another thing to love? The extra-long 9 foot cord. No more having to stand right up against the bathroom sink. You can move a little more freely thanks to this small, yet brilliant gesture from Dyson.

One other thing to note about the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer is the price. It currently retails for $399 at Best Buy, so this certainly puts the Supersonic in the category of luxury item. I'm not afraid to spend a little more when an item improves my quality of life. My time is valuable and the fact that the Dyson Supersonic cuts my drying and styling time, without damaging my hair, makes it a must-have beauty item for me.
