Cirque is back! A brand new, first-of-its-kind, live theatrical production marrying the genius of Cirque du Soleil and the art of Disney Animation is now open at Disney Springs and I'm giving you the details.
Drawn to Life by Cirque du Soleil
I was invited to the grand opening of Drawn to Life at Disney Springs and I was excited to experience a Cirque du Soleil show for the first time. I didn't know exactly what to expect but I knew that it was going beautiful. The energy was electric as we entered the iconic white tent at Disney Spring. The last 18 months have been heavy and it was a welcome relief to be surrounded by other Disney enthusiasts to see this new show.
We found our seats (for reference, we sat in section 205) and it seemed like there wasn't a bad seat in the house. The setting felt intimate. Later, swings would drop from the ceiling and performers would take to the aisles and swings, bringing the show out into the crowd.
Before the show began, we watched as performers interacted with audience members and invited some children on stage to draw their own creations. The images were then projected for the entire audience so we could applaud their efforts.
John Stamos, a self-admitted Disney geek, was also in attendance to celebrate the grand opening of Drawn to Life.
Drawn to Life follows the story of Julie, a young girl who receives an unexpected gift from her late father who was an animator. In a heartfelt letter, he told her that he hoped she would finish a drawing that he left unfinished. She heads to his animator's desk and her journey begins.
The storyline is abstract and dreamlike, filled with whimsical and wonderful elements. From a pencil that comes alive with aerial acrobatics to a white-gloved hand that extends comfort to young Julie, there are dozens of unique characters.
Drawn to Life is packed with gravity-defying acrobatics, beautiful choreography, and playful costumes. It's truly a delight to watch. I found myself saying, "How do they do that," over and over. Especially when it came to the juggler (MIND BLOWN!).
A Cirque du Soleil performance is memorable in its own right, but the way in which the magic of Disney was infused into the show was unforgettable.
Drawn to Life really celebrates Disney’s extraordinary legacy, from the pencil sketches of beloved characters to the familiar tunes that we know and love. It was a beautiful experience to see this first-of-its-kind show that blended Cirque du Soleil and Disney so amazingly well.
Tickets for Drawn to Life start at $85 and can be purchased on the Cirque du Soleil website. I highly recommend seeing the show if you're in the Orlando area. Be sure to set aside some time to take in all that Disney Springs has to offer. The shopping and restaurants are incredible.
