It's the Summer of Heroes at Disney California Adventure Park and they weren't lying when they said it would be a blockbuster season of heroic encounters in Hollywood Land. Get all the details and see why you need to pay this park a visit before the summer ends.

When I got the magical invitation from Disney inviting me to attend the D23 Expo, I did a quick happy dance when I read that we'd also be visiting Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. I've always wanted to visit Disney on the west coast and I was finally going to get my chance!

Luckily, this also coincided with the Summer of Heroes that's currently going on at Disney California Adventure. Now, through September 10, this limited-time celebration is featuring all-new epic adventures for the hero in you.

You'll have the chance to fully immerse yourself in all things Marvel during this summertime event. Kids can attend the Avengers Training Initiative and everyone can catch Heroic Encounter: Black Widow. There's even a new Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off! where Star-Lord and Gamora face off, backed by rock and roll classics from Peter Quill’s beloved boom box, while park-goers dance along.

I think what I was most excited about was the new Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout! attraction. The former Tower of Terror has been completely revamped into this new thrill ride where guests will accompany Rocket on a adrenaline pumping mission to rescue the Guardians of the Galaxy from The Collector’s fortress.

While you're in the queue for the ride, you'll weave your way through the fortress and find all sorts of collectible odds and ends.

Apparently, the Guardians of the Galaxy are the most collectible thing of all, and you'll join Rocket on a mission to break them out.

If you've even been on The Tower of Terror (I've only been on the version at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida, but I imagine it was similar to the one in Hollywood Land), you know it's a bit jaw "dropping." I don't want to give too much away, but your heart will definitely be pounding after this ride. Ours sure were!

To get a better idea of what this thrilling new ride entails, check out this video from Inside the Magic:

Besides all of the amazing attractions throughout Hollywood Land, guests can also buy special themed merchandise and food. I was able to find quite a few things that I knew my son would love.

And, can we just talk about this Groot bread real quick? Have you ever seen a more adorable carb in your life?

Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are just as magical as I hoped they'd be. I had an incredible time and hope that one day I can return with my whole family. I'm sure they would absolutely love this experience.

For those of you wondering if it's worth a trip from the east coast since we have SO much Disney goodness at Walt Disney World Resort, I'm going to say YES. Disneyland packs so much excitement into a much smaller space, but it's ride after ride after ride... and dare I say that Disneyland's ride are better?! I really think they are. Plus, they've got the Indiana Jones Adventure, which I think might be my new favorite.

Disclosure: I attended the D23 Expo and the Disney Summer of Heroes celebration at no cost as part of a press trip hosted by Disney. All opinions are my own.
