I've partnered with Abrams Books for this post. If your child is a fan of Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, there's a new book that he or she is going to love. Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid: Rowley Jefferson’s Journal offers a new look into the Wimpy Kid world.
I am a huge fan of a book series. I love when I can get to know characters who develop over time and don't have to say goodbye to them once a book ends. As far as I'm concerned, the more books in a series, the better! I think my son feels the same way because he constantly picks out familiar covers when we're in the book store. That's why I knew he'd enjoy Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid: Rowley Jefferson’s Journal. This book is a spin-off of the hugely popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and is written from the perspective of Rowley Jefferson.
Fans are already familiar with Rowley, Greg Heffley's best friend. In Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid, Rowley shares his point of view and ends up becoming Greg's biographer along the way. Despite Greg's antics, Rowley remains optimistic and enthusiastic, always showing kindness and demonstrating what an awesome, friendly kid he truly is... even though the biography turns out to be a bit of hot mess. Oh, and speaking of Greg, the hero of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, he's returning with a new book later this year! Keep an eye out for Diary of a Wimpy Kid #14 this fall.
Rowley Jefferson is an awesome, friendly kid. I just so happen to have my own awesome, friendly kid, so I knew this book would be fun to read with him. My son's reading skills are just starting to really blossom, so I knew this book would be a good fit for him since it's ideal for children ages 8-12. My son needed help with some of the bigger words at the beginning of the book, but to my delight, he really took off on his own and hasn't put the book down since he got it. He thinks this book is absolutely hilarious.
Like Rowley, my little man always gives people the benefit of the doubt. He's so good-natured and in-tune to those around him. He hates when anyone is sad and will come up with a silly joke just to make them smile. He also does his best to include everyone; even his little sister even though he says she can be a bit of a pest from time to time. I'm so proud of the person he is growing to be.
Awesome Friendly Kid T-Shirt Template
Since my little guy loves this book so much, I decided to make him his very own t-shirt that tells the world that he's also an awesome, friendly kid. I created the design on a photo editing and design website, then used my handy vinyl cutting machine to create an iron-on vinyl transfer. I simply ironed the design onto a plain white t-shirt and that was it!
Isn't his shirt cool? I like that it's fun and a little play on the title of his new favorite book. If you'd like to make one for your awesome, friendly kid, just CLICK HERE to download the PNG file.
If you haven't already bought it, be sure to grab a copy of Jeff Kinney's Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid: Rowley Jefferson’s Journal to encourage your child to read this summer and get ready for Diary of a Wimpy Kid #14 this November.
