I have naturally wavy hair and it takes a lot of effort to either straighten it or curl it. When I was in high school I used to iron my hair with an actual iron. Yes, really. My mother told me how women in the olden days would straighten their hair with irons, so I figured I would give it a try. Armed with a potholder in one hand and a regular iron in the other, I ironed my hair almost every day. But, that wasn't the safest or healthiest method and I'm thankful that there are a variety of amazing flat irons on the market today. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to review (for free) a Cortex flat iron.
I was sent a Cortex Solo 450 Jet Black Titanium Flat Iron for review. This professional, salon model flat iron is equipped with titanium plates that promise to give your hair a high gloss shine. This flat iron is 1" wide and can achieve temperatures up to 450°F. At the time of this review, the flat iron retailed for $259.99, but you can usually find it for less on Amazon. It's since come WAY down in price, thankfully.
I couldn't wait to get my hands on this flat iron! I've never invested in a high-quality flat iron and wanted to see if it would live up to my expectations. I immediately plugged the flat iron in and started to wait. My previous flat iron would take minutes to heat up, so I figured I'd be in for a bit of a wait with this one as well. To my delight, it started to heat up almost immediately. Cortex states that this flat iron heats up in less than 6 seconds thanks to it's innovative PTC ceramic heater and I'd say that they're correct (and awesome!).
I turned the dial to 400°F and started ironing my hair. This iron has a great feel to it. It's sleek, ergonomically designed and even has a professional 360° swivel cord to prevent tangling. My previous flat iron had an awful "hot spot" on the handle and after a few minutes of use it would burn my hand. This flat iron's handles stay cool to the touch and it's so comfortable to use. It's constructed really well and there are no uneven surfaces that snag or pull your hair.
This Cortex flat iron has far infrared technology to distribute heat evenly and it helps your hair dry from the inside out. This is wonderful for locking moisture into the hair shaft and preventing damage. It also uses negative ion technology to ensure silky, smooth hair. Best of all, this flat iron banishes frizz! Living in Florida, I'm often the victim of oppressive humidity and my hair pays the price. I feel confident that this flat iron will take me into the summer months with smooth, frizz-free hair. The Cortex Solo 450 not only straightens your hair, it can also curl the ends to give you a bit more bounce.

Im not a "lets do my hair every morning" type of person but this looks nice for a special day. When I would do something with my hair, I would blow dry it straight but it would take at least 30 minutes because of how long it is and I would just give up. lol Maybe a straightener would be faster?
