    Blue Lizard Sunscreen Review

If you're looking for a great, broad spectrum sunscreen, you've come to the right place! Blue Lizard sunscreen has formulations for the whole family and clever packaging to give you visual cue so you can decipher when you need to apply sunblock.

    blue lizard sunscreen

I've partnered with Blue Lizard for this sponsored post.

As you can imagine, as a Florida resident I hear about sun safety pretty often. Wearing sunscreen has become a way of life for us, but it didn't always used to be that way for me. I try not to live life with regrets, but if there is one thing I regret deeply it's spending time sunbathing and in tanning beds in my early twenties. I'm mortified when I think back on it and how much harmful UV exposure I got. It's amazing how vanity can overtake rational thinking. Well, I can tell you one thing - I've learned my lesson after seeing my skin change before my very eyes. I will not let me son make the same mistakes I did and fiercely try to protect him from sun damage and skin cancer. Since living like a hermit indoors isn't really an option, we opt for sun protective clothing and of course a great sunscreen, like Blue Lizard Sunscreen.

    Blue Lizard Sunscreen

Blue Lizard Sunscreen was originally created in Australia, where sunscreen standards just happen to be the strictest in the entire world. Although their products are now made in the USA by Crown Laboratories, they continue to adhere to the stringent standards set in Australia, which means they're providing pharmaceutical-grade sunscreen with the highest quality ingredients. In fact, their sunscreens are so well-respected, they're ranked as one of the top sunscreens by the Environmental Working Group (EWG). Blue Lizard knows that sunscreen is of utmost importance when it comes to shielding yourself form harmful UVA/UVB rays that can potentially cause skin cancer, BUT they also know that as consumers you want to know what is IN the products you're using. That's why they're completely transparent about the ingredients they use and why they use them. Their website is full of useful info about their products and sun safety in general.

There are many, many sunscreen brands on the market and it might be tempting to just grab a high SPF and be on your way, but there's a reason why Blue Lizard is doctor, dermatologist, pharmacist, and mom recommended. They deliver clinically proven broad spectrum UVA and UVB skin protection while being safe and water resistant. They have five different formulas available: Baby, Sensitive, Face, Sport, and Regular, all offering SPF 30+. I was sent three of Blue Lizard's formulas to try: Face, Sensitive, and Sport, and I definitely had big plans for all three.

    splash-2

As a parent, I'm always concerned about the products that I use on my little guy. I actively search for the safest products I can find, rather than exposing him to harmful chemicals unnecessarily. Just look at that sweet face and beautiful skin... isn't that worth protecting with a safe sunscreen?! That's why I was thrilled when I read that Blue Lizard's Baby and Sensitive sunscreens are paraben-free, chemical-free and fragrance-free. The bottle it's packaged in is also BPA-free (thank you Blue Lizard!). Not only that, their patented BPA-free Smart Bottle™ serves as a valuable educational tool -  it turns from white to blue (or pink for our Baby formula) in the presence of harmful UV rays, serving as a visual reminder to apply sunscreen ASAP.

    Blue-Lizard-Sunscreen

I was definitely impressed with the packaging of the Blue Lizard Sunscreens. I love the visual reminder of the color changing bottles and caps and I was able to use that as a teaching opportunity for my soon-to-be three year old. I used the Sensitive formula with him and I was able to easily explain that when the bottles or caps on our bottles turn blue, we needed to be sure to apply a good amount of sun screen so the sun wouldn't give us "boo-boos". He got the picture in no time.

    Splash3

As you can imagine, once I let my little guy loose in at the splash pad or in the pool, it can be a challenge to wrangle him back in to reapply sunscreen. I love that the Sensitive formula uses only high quality natural minerals, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, for broad UV coverage, and it lasts a long time. I didn't have to reapply once during the hour and 15 minutes we were there. It didn't have any scent and it wasn't oily or greasy either.

    splash-pad

I was ecstatic about getting Blue Lizard's Face formula. With my first pregnancy, I had horrible melasma that lasted well beyond a year after I gave birth. I don't think I provided myself with enough protection from the sun while pregnant and even afterwards and that made it so much worse. This time around, I've been shielding my face from the sun with large brimmed visors and using safe SPF formulas. Blue Lizard's Face formula is oil-free and mineral-based, containing Zinc Oxide. In case you're wondering, the Zinc Oxide in Blue Lizard's Face formula is not a nanoparticle and it contains no Titanium Dioxide.

    Blue-Lizard-Sunscreens

The Sport formula is extremely water resistant (along with the Regular formula) and it meets Australian standards of staying on in 240 minutes of whirlpool water - that's pretty impressive! With my husband being an avid jogger, I knew he'd be interesting in testing the Sport formula. He gave it great marks and liked that it didn't feel greasy while offering great protection from the brutal Florida sun.

If you want to try Blue Lizard sunscreens, you can get them on their website or at retailers like CVS.com.
