KidKraft Everyday Heroes Wooden Play Set Review

Kidkraft everyday heroes wooden play set

Our little guy has just reached the point where he'll sit and play by himself. As I was taking a quick inventory of his toys, I realized that we didn't have a lot of toys that would keep him busy for a long period of time... as in sitting in just one spot and contently playing. As I rummaged through his toy bins, I realized a lot of his small toys were sort of "cheap" and not really made to last the test of time. I was on the hunt for some new toys when KidKraft contacted me about reviewing one of their products (at no cost). It was perfect timing, and I answered with a yes right away. KidKraft has been a proven leader in the world of wooden toys and furniture for over 40 years. This was exactly what I had been looking for.

KidKraft specializes in making wooden toys that are inventive, interactive and educational. Play kitchens, dollhouses, doll furniture and train sets are just some of the many items that KidKraft is recognized for throughout the world. KidKraft playsets are very colorful and excited and just scream creative play, don't you think? KidKraft allowed me to choose one of their items and although it was a difficult choice, I selected the KidKraft Everyday Heroes Play Set for my toddler.

I chose the Everyday Heroes Play Set for a few reasons. First, it looked amazing online, and I loved that it's made of composite wood products. There are no batteries required or special effects, so all the fun would be left up to his imagination. Secondly, a lot of our family members are in law enforcement and we live right down the road from a fire station, so I wanted to introduce him to these amazing professions.

KidKraft Everyday heroes wooden play set

The set comes in a pretty decent sized box, and to my extreme delight there is NO ASSEMBLY REQUIRED! Did you hear me there? NONE. All you have to do is unbox this beautiful play set, screw one of the sides on to the hinges (which took me literally 1 minute - and just a note, those tiny screws are taped to the fireman's pole), then open up the two boxes of accessories. That's it. Imagine yourself on Christmas Eve... think of all the time you'll have to relax and enjoy your night with virtually no assembly time.

    KidKraft

The Everyday Heroes Wooden Play Set is composed of 4 segments on hinges that "unfold" to reveal an entire fire and police station. There are 12 different rooms on 3 floors and room to play on the roof! Each room has a different theme and coordinating accessories that are completely removable so your child is free to rearrange as he or she pleases. As we started unwrapping the play set pieces, my husband {who is not easily impressed with toys} and I kept saying "WOW, look at this one!". The little details on this play set are truly applause-worthy. There's a little treadmill for the workout room, cushioned bunk beds for the locker room, a little toilet with a lid that goes up and down, a bathtub... the list goes on and on! We're talking really, really cute touches here.

    KidKraft

There are a number of wide windows so your child can look out or peek in from all different directions. Don't mind that little touch of Gulliver's Travels above. As you can see in these photos that show off some of the rooms and pieces, KidKraft goes all out to ensure your child has everything they need to fully furnish their station. The pieces are mostly made from wood composite or plastic and are just darling.

    KidKraft

This play set include two play figures, a firefighter and a police officer, and two dogs, one firehouse Dalmatian and one police K-9. They're all rubberized so they'll bend and adapt and fit to all of the accessories in the house.

    KidKraft

There's even a fire pole that goes down an entire column so the firefighter can slide down, hop into his truck and speed off to the rescue. Speaking of trucks, the set includes 3 different vehicles: a fire truck, a patrol motorcycle, AND a helicopter (complete with a launch pad on the roof)!

    KidKraft

All of the rooms on the bottom level of the house have doors that open and close. The two center rooms have double doors so the firetruck and motorcycle can pass through to the other side. Speaking of the other side...

    KidKraft

Just when you think this play set is just plain awesome, you turn it around and see the bright and colorful outside and realize it's more than that - it's FANTASTIC. The design is mainly decals (not hand painted - sorry I didn't get closer pictures), but it's wonderfully durable, which is a blessing with my rough and clumsy toddler.

    KidKraft

My little guy is enamored with this play set. He plays, and play, and plays! There are so many components, rooms, vehicles, and characters to play with that it holds his attention for an impressive amount of time, and I can see the little wheels in his head spinning during this imaginative play. The set is large enough that two or more children could play at a time without being right on top of one another.

    KidKraft

When your children are done playing, they can simply load the accessories inside and fold the sides inward for compact, easy storage.

Overall, we are thrilled with this play set. It's durable, very well made, and keeps my toddler actively playing for long periods of time. He's played with this set every single day since we've received it. I'm not sure why I was surprised, since KidKraft has been in the business of high-quality toy making for decades, but I was floored to see the quality and sheer number of accessories that come with the Everyday Heroes Play Set. Just for a little comparison, this entire set is available at many retailers for less than $150 (in fact, you can purchase it on Amazon for less than $130, with free shipping), yet we have ONE wooden helicopter from another manufacturer that retailers for $20! This set feels like a bargain to me considering how many toys are packed into one set. I would absolutely recommend this set to anyone and am looking forward to purchasing KidKraft toys in the future for our son and as gifts for family and friends.

Buy it: You can purchase the KidKraft Everyday Heroes Play Set (and other wonderful toys and wooden furniture from KidKraft) on Amazon.com.

Three people in the comments refer to this being gender-neutral but I only see two action figures and both are men. Seems like this toy is made for boys.

I enjoyed reading through your review of this play house and was surprised at all the thoughtful pieces that are included! They seem to be well made and sturdy. There are also a lot of them included in this one set. I also love that it comes assembled...just set it up to your liking with the furniture and vehicles and people provided.

My favorite features are the helicopter on top and the pole down the middle. We love anything that flies (daddy flies helicopters), although fire trucks are a close second. I also love that it's wooden! There are so few good wooden toys for boys, and we try to avoid all the lights and noise in "traditional" toys.

My favorite feature is just what you said in the review: no flashing lights, no sounds, no screens, no technology-- it's just a beautifully made toy set that allows for exploration and full use of imagination! so many toys tend to do the imagining FOR kids, but I love that this just opens up a world for them to explore and create on their own! plus, my son would LOVE the vehicles, so I guess that's a favorite too 🙂

For now, she'd be happy to gnaw on one of the train cars. 🙂 I love that there's a dollhouse-type playset featuring true heroes. The firehouse is so unique. I love the fire truck and fireman's pole! And it looks like a great size. KidKraft makes so many wonderful, high-quality things. And I'll always seek out toys that don't make noise or have a screen... toys that can't really get broken. I also would love to get their Metropolis Train Set and Table. It's a beautiful espresso color on bottom and a busy, entertaining activity table on top. I'll be keeping both of these in mind for Christmas! Thanks for the review and chance to win!

That looks awesome! I love all the details. That fire pole is so cool. And a heli pad too! My favorite feature of course is that it all fits inside and folds away neatly. We had several little people sets that didn't fold and you had to find places to put all the accessories and the huge castle, zoo, etc. This is so nice.

I love the fact that wooden toys are becoming popular again... a lot more kid-safe and better for the environment than plastic, plastic, plastic! This looks like a great opportunity for DS to develop better manual and cognitive skills without the danger of chemical toys.

That pirate sand boat is awesome! Not only do they get good outside play time, but they're shaded from direct sunlight, which is perfect for sensitive skin!

My favorite feature of the Kid Kraft Every Day Heroes Wooden Play Set is that its made to last forever because it's made from wood. That is why I like this company. You know it's going to be a toy you can pass down. It will get years of play time. My second favorite feature is that it folds up so you can take it with you easily to Grammy & PaPa's house.

I love that there's very little assembly with the Everyday Heroes play set and that it doesn't make noise! It's so important for the little ones' development to have toys where they can use their imaginations (and it's lovely not to have another plastic thing that makes noise).

This is fantastic! I actually want this for our daughter! She will be 17 months at Christmas and is already obsessed with her brothers toys. I know on Christmas he would be the first to play with it, peaking her interest. But, since he'll be 6.5 on Christmas he'll inevitably move on to playing video games with Daddy, leaving the little lady to think that she's hit the jackpot!

Yes, I "reverse psychology" my kids allllll the time! #NoShame 🙂

It's so refreshing to read about sustainable toys that stand the test of time. Everything these days is plastic and toxic,I loved reading this review highlighting the wood. This set looks amazing: incredible detail, no assembly required, and clearly fun for hours. I'm so excited at the opportunity.
