Motorola MBP27T Video Baby Monitor Review

On every thorough baby registry list, you'll see a baby monitor. Unless you live in a studio apartment, its really one of those necessities if you want to rest with the peace of mind that your baby is still sleeping, safe and sound in the next room. The layout of our apartment puts the only perfect space to put our baby upstairs, while the master bedroom is on the main floor. I've been so worried about this arrangement until I attended the Biggest Baby Shower Ever event in Boston last month and came across a booth of Motorola baby monitors. I saw their state-of-the-art devices with high tech features, clear video displays, and even more features I hadn't seen in monitors, and I felt a huge relief! I was thrilled to hear that I'd be able to review one and tell you all about it! At no cost to facilitate this review, I was sent the Motorola MBP27T video monitor, and it is everything I hoped it would be.

The set up involves a few more steps then simply plugging it into the wall. The two devices must be paired so that they can work together, and we had some trouble getting that figured out, even with the instructions. Our device seemed to have a hard time getting connected, but once the two were synced, we were good to go. I like knowing that this monitor comes from a trusted brand in wireless communication. I've used a Motorola phone in the past, and I was pleased with its performance and price, so I expected this monitor to be just as reliable.

    motorola 2

Honestly, the only mechanical assembly required is to plug in the battery pack. The parent unit comes with a removable clip so that you can tote around the monitor as you bustle around the house! If you ever get out of range, an alarm will sound, so you'll never have to worry about staying in close proximity to the baby's room.

    motorola 3

The parent device of the Motorola MBP27T has a few buttons to orient yourself on, but if you have any cell phone experience, you'll be fine! On the device, you are able to adjust the volume, the brightness of the display, alternate between C and F, and even select with video camera you'd like to view. If you'd like to add more monitors around the house, you are able to access them all from one parent unit! You really could wire your house with video monitors if you wanted to!

    motorola 4

The screen is 2.4", and I've found that the "full color" screen doesn't have a lot of variation in the spectrum -- mostly a lot of blues, but it is a step above black and white. The infrared night vision feature, however, is awesome! Below is the image I get with the camera set up in a completely dark room. I'm so impressed with its ability to get a good visual without having to set up lights in the room!

    MBP27T

Also above you can see how you can set the parent monitor upright with an attached stand, as well as plug it in to recharge. You've got up to a 520 ft. range (that's huge!), and if you ever get out-of-range, you'll get an alert.

In addition to all these features, the Motorola MBP27T also has an integrated touchless thermometer for baby and for liquids! Taking a baby's temperature can be a bother, and having a thermometer, especially a touchless thermometer, at your disposal is genius. You can easily get a reading every time you walk into the nursery, and it takes only seconds. The monitor is able to store the last 10 readings so you can track temperature trends and spikes throughout the night. We were able to get accurate readings on baby bottles and toddler foreheads instantly! What a great feature!

    motorola 5

I love being able to pan and tilt the display with the video camera! If you have a baby who rolls around the crib at night, you're able to search and find them on the screen without stepping foot into the room to adjust the monitor. Another feature that I love on this monitor is the two-way communication. Like a walkie-talkie, you are able to speak through the parent unit to comfort your baby back to bed, or tell them that you're on your way.

    motorola 6

The camera has a high sensitivity microphone, so it can pick up even the slightest movements. I'm able to hear the slightest ruffling of bed sheets, even when the volume on the parent unit is set to a low level. The sounds quality is pretty crisp. This baby monitor really does the job, and beyond! I am thoroughly impressed, and will be recommending this monitor to all new mothers!

Buy it: The Motorola MBP27T Digital Video Baby Monitor is available on Amazon. Suggested retail: $199.99. You can see many of the baby monitors available from Motorola on their website.

I would really like this monitor, It would help me with taking care of my daughter who is very sick she has a chronic cough whe she sometimes stops breathing that the doctors can't figure out why and I need to have her close to me as possible, but this would be away for me to have her in her own room away from me for a few.

Moving into a new house and the kids rooms are down the hall from ours. Since we also have a three year old this monitor could also help me not only watch baby but make sure the other one is in bed too. Win win situation

Infrared night vision by far would be great! Our toddler has a habit of waking up and letting out a cry or two. 99% of the time she settles right back down within a minute but I've always wondered if I could see her if I could tell what was possibly going on. Plus it's be a kick to watch her when she goes down to sleep at night or for naps. We know she stays happily awake for a while before falling asleep and I've always wanted to watch to see what she's occupying herself doing 🙂

I love everything about this monitor, it has all the features I could ever want. I have 2 children and my oldest just turned 2. He is a wild child and a climber. It would be nice to keep track of him and to see if he is causing trouble without having to sneak in to see what he's up to. Usually if he's half asleep it ruins his nap.

I would love this monitor! We have baby #3 on the way, and our basic monitor died a few months ago after almost 4 years of use. We can't afford a video monitor, and I used to think I wouldn't want one anyway, but after the first child, I realized the convenience and fun it would be to have one. Once we move the baby out of our room, which is down stairs, they move up stairs, which makes it hard to hear them without a monitor. I love the features this one offers, and the thermometer one is pretty awesome!

I would to have to give to my daughter for use when our grandchild is born. They are a young military couple and could really use a great gift like this. Especially Daddy, he will be able to check on baby when he leaves in the very early mornings or returns late at night without waking her/him.

Oh my, this would be AWESOME! Our 4th is on the way and the video monitor we have now you can't add a camera to and it's so old it will only work if it's plugged in, so no toting it around the house. With this one I could ask for an additional camera for Christmas and then I'd be able to keep an eye on our 1 year old AND the new baby!!!

We are in the process of transitioning from co-sleeping to our baby to sleep independently. This monitor would be helpful so that when we want to see if she's asleep we don't have to physically enter her room which will remove the risk of her seeing us and then it being a complete disaster. We NEED this monitor!!

I would like to win this monitor for my grandson. His older sister was fine with just an audio monitor, but he just doesn't seem as strong, and we worry. She has a friend who said she could borrow hers, now that her baby is almost 2, but it's kind of an expensive thing to borrow, if something were to happen to it.

This looks like a wonderful monitor! Who knew they could come up with this stuff. As a mom of a toddler I'd love to be able to check on him more at night without waking him up. The hefty price tag is the only thing that deters me from running to the store.

we have a new grand baby on the way and our other grand baby is kind of having a hard time adjusting to the idea of not being the only grand baby so it will be nice to watch the interaction between the both of them, she says she wants to help so that will be nice to watch and see how her practicing with her babies has paid off plus it will give me and papa some peace of mind to be able to watch them or one of them when they are here.
