Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation Review

Chasing two little kids around all day can really give my makeup a run for its money. I've teamed up with Sephora inside JCPenney to put the Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation to the test. See how it stood up to one of my busiest days in the middle of a hot Florida summer.

My skin has been a little bit of a mess lately. I'm trying out a new skin care regimen to help reverse aging signs of my oily, acne-prone skin. Sounds charming, doesn't it? Did I also mention I haven't slept through the night in over 2 years? That's mom life at its finest. Needless to say, I need a full-coverage foundation. Here's the thing though; going shopping for new makeup can be a bit of pain when you have to bring your 5-year-old and 2-year-old along. That's why I love Sephora inside JCPenney.

I visit our local JCPenney often so I appreciate the fact that there's a Sephora tucked right inside. When I need to go shoe shopping for my kiddos or pick up a set of new sheets at JCPenney, I can also grab some new makeup or skincare products without having to make an extra stop. I'm ALL about one-stop shopping.

Plus, Sephora has made buying a new foundation even easier with their Color IQ process. A Sephora Product Consultant can do a quick scan of your face to determine the perfect lip, foundation and concealer matches for you. If you don't have a Sephora nearby, you can also find your Color IQ online by telling them what current brands and shades of makeup you use. It's super easy!

Kat Von D Lock It Foundation

Based on my Color IQ, Sephora inside JCPenney sent me a box full of Kat Von D makeup to put to the test. I've been underwhelmed with my previous foundations and knew I needed to try something new. Honestly, I don't have time for touch-ups and I want makeup that delivers on its promise to provide full and lasting coverage. I was hopeful that Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation would be "the one" that I've been looking for.

What better way to trial the Lock-It Foundation than putting it through the rigors of my day? I might be considered a stay at home mom, but we rarely ever stay home. We're out and about throughout the day, which is no easy feat if you're hoisting 2 kids in and out of car seats in Florida when it's 90 degrees and 85% humidity. Oh, and did I mention I've got oily skin and makeup usually slides right off my face by the afternoon?

I was really excited to use the Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation for the first time after seeing a video of Kat herself applying it. Not only is she an accomplished tattoo artist, TV star, and savvy business woman, she's also drop-dead gorgeous. I felt pretty confident that Kat wouldn't put her name on something that doesn't live up to a customer's expectations.

I started off by priming my skin with the Kat Von D Hydrating Primer. Since I'm oily, I'm usually hesitant to use anything with the term hydrating on my skin. The consultant at Sephora inside JCPenney told me this was necessary since the foundation provides such a matte finish. I trusted her and she was absolutely right. It's feather-light and doesn't feel thick or greasy. Once my skin was primed, I was ready for the foundation.

Kat applied the Lock-It Foundation with a Lock-It Edge Foundation Brush, and although I've never applied my foundation with a brush before, I set my sponge blender aside and went for it. Right away I loved the coverage it provided. The Lock-It Foundation corrected dark spots and blemishes but didn't look or feel too thick or cakey. Next, I applied a little Lock-It Concealer under my eyes and on my trouble spots using the Lock-It Edge Concealer Brush. Impressed doesn't even begin to describe how I was feeling at this point.

I finished the look with the recommended Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder. This weightless translucent powder sets your makeup for the day and gives you a flawless finish. I felt like my makeup looked airbrushed!

Usually, I feel lukewarm about my makeup most days, but I've got minimal time to get ready and even less energy to do much about it. But, today I felt GREAT. I felt like my makeup was on-point and my skin looked pretty flawless. I left the house to run errands with my kiddos, hoping the makeup would last.

After visiting a few stores and grocery shopping, we returned home around 12, just in time for the little one to go down for a nap. I decided to do a mid-day photo to show how well the makeup was holding up.

As you can see, it's still there! This photo was taken around 2:30, after my daughter's nap and after I'd just tidied up the house. I then went about my day playing with the kids, preparing dinner and doing our bedtime routine.

At 8 PM I was ready to put my kids to bed and take my makeup off. Usually, by this point, there is NO makeup left on my face and I'm super shiny. The Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation held up amazingly well for 12 hours. I did reapply some lipstick and gloss right after dinner but didn't need to touch up my foundation at all. I snapped these 8 PM pictures while we still had the last bit of daylight.

Friends, I am blown away. I've never had a foundation last past 2 or 3 PM. It always wears off and I'm a shiny, hot mess by the end of the day. The Lock-It Foundation stayed put, without me having to touch it up at any point. It didn't have quite the same airbrushed look by 8 PM, but it I still had a matte finish and very good coverage of my problem areas.

This is it for me. Kat Von D Lock-It makeup and brushes are going to have a permanent place in my makeup bag. All day coverage with no touch-ups was the promise and this makeup delivered!
