Awesome (and Affordable) Sensory Toys for Toddlers!

This post may contain affiliate links. Click here for more information.

Looking for great and affordable sensory toys for toddlers? You've come to the right place! Get all the details on our favorites right here.

    Sensory Toys for Toddlers

I've teamed up with Step2 for this post.

It's pretty clear that children, and most adults for that matter, learn best when their senses are engaged. That's why babies touch, tug-on, and put everything in their mouths. It's also why certain scents trigger vivid memories. Your senses are tied into the way you process and learn about the environment and how you archive your memories. This is especially important for toddlers who are just brimming with excitement to explore the world and learn new things. You don't need to spend a fortune to get some of the coolest toys and learning resources that will stimulate your child's senses. I've come up with a list of awesome and affordable sensory toys for toddlers!

The Best Sensory Toys for Toddlers

Learning Resources Super Sorting Pie - The Super Sorting Pie teaches early number skills and attributes, including colors and fruit shapes. It provides supportive visual cues, thanks to the sorting cards that slip into the bottom of the pan. The top crust becomes a bowl to conveniently hold counters. This toy also reinforces fine motor skills (that are important for things like shoelace tying and writing among other things) when children use jumbo tweezers, featuring depressions that guide little hands into the proper pincer grip. Children are sure to sort, count and relish large servings of fruity pie fun. The MSRP is $29.99, but you can often find this one on Amazon for less than $20! (be sure to provide proper supervision as small pieces can be choking hazards)

Kidoozie Foam Pogo Jumper - Allow your child to explore the world while hopping (and getting some exercise)! Made from soft, durable foam and great for indoor and outdoor play, this lovable foam pogo jumper squeaks with every hop. The bungee stretches to accommodate children of all heights and can support up to 250 pounds. Kids and adults alike will have a hopping good time on the Hop & Squeak Pogo Jumper. This pogo is suitable for ages 3 up to adults, and it's a STEAL at just $15!

Mr. Sketch Scented Markers - Sensory learning goes way beyond touch and feel with these scented markers from Mr. Sketch. These premium coloring products are AP certified, nontoxic, and a tad nostalgic since you probably had these when you were a kid! At less than $10 a pack, you'll want to sit down and color with your tot. (be sure to provide proper supervision as the caps can be a choking hazard)

Play-Doh (Fun Factory Set) - I know, I know - it can be a pain to clean up, but Play-Doh is a fantastic toy for creative play. Let your little one roll, mold, shape, and squeeze with a Play-Doh set that includes some fun tools likes molds and presses. A bonus? Play-Doh is pretty cheap!

Hape - Pound & Tap Bench with Slide out Xylophone - Sensory play should certainly include making music to stimulate development. By pounding on Hape's Pound and Tap Bench, your child will send the balls tinkling over the xylophone. They can then pull out the keyboard and the xylophone can be played solo. Hape uses durable, child-safe paint and solid wood construction. This toy will last and last and costs less than $30.

Crayola My First Fingerpaint Kit with Washable Paint - Even though it can be messy, sensory play through fingerpainting is important for development. So, embrace the WASHABLE messiness with this Crayola kit.

Best in show - Sand and water table

Step2 Cascading Cover Sand and Water Table with cover - With the Cascading Cove, your toddler can make believe they’re sailing the seas, then wash ashore to dig for buried treasure. This fun play table features two sides, one for water, complete with bridges to navigate under, and the other for sand. It comes with fun accessories like boats, a sand rake, and molds. My little guy recently got the Cascading Cove Sand and Water Table and he's been fascinated with it ever since. He's played with it every single day since we assembled it (which was a breeze).

Step2 Cascading Cove Sand and Water Table

This table is bright and cheerful and is the perfect addition to our backyard and lanai. It's rather bright down here in the South, so we really love the included 42" umbrella that provides some much-needed shade.

Step2 Cascading Cove Sand and Water Table

There are drain plugs on each side so it's easy to release the water at the end of a play session, plus there's a durable, one-piece plastic cover to keep the sand dry (which is perfect here in Florida!). You can even use this sand and water table for other adventurous sensory play! Check out my friend Lindsey Blogs for a super fun and (EASY) DIY Moon Dough recipe. You can purchase this water table on Step2.com or possibly less on Amazon..

Kinetic Sand - No time to make your own Moon Dough, now worries - just pick up some Kinetic Sand! It's easy-to-shape sand that molds into simple designs. It's based on 98% pure sand and the secret to the movement is the patented technology hidden within the binder. Kinetic sand conforms to the safety directives for the US and EU markets and it's perfect for molding and shaping until your toddler's heart is content. You'll have hours of entertainment and it's easy cleanup!

Another great Step2 sand and water table

    dino sensory bin

Also be sure to check out our Dino Sand and Water Table Sensory Bin!

Disclosure: As a Step2 Ambassador, I received the Cascading Cove Sand & Water Table at no cost to facilitate this post about Sensory Toys for Toddlers, as well as monetary compensation for promoting Step2 products throughout the year. All opinions are 100% my own. Amazon links are affiliate links.

I would love the clubhouse climber! I love how it is letting your kids be active instead of sitting in front of the TV or playstation! There are a lot of distractions but I believe it's important for the littles to have fun and be out in the sun and fresh air! Thank you so much for having giveaways to moms and dads who would enjoy this as much as the kids! If I win, I'll post lots of pics and love it as much as my son would!

Thanks so much for this post! My wife and I have been shopping around for some good sensory toys for a long time, but haven't found a one-stop resource or list until now. As a kindergarten teacher, my wife has only worked with a few of these options. We're both really interested in the Wee Can Too finger paint. We'll look into it and let you know what we find! Thanks again!
