Like many little boys his age, my son is in love with race cars. He's just reaching that full-on stage of make believe play and Hot Wheels are some of his favorite toys. In fact, we used them as potty training incentives and he was so excited to get new "Hot Cars" (as he calls them), that he was fully potty trained within just a few days. To celebrate this big milestone, we decided to upgrade his room to a super cool "big boy" room, complete with the Step2 Hot Wheels Toddler To Twin Race Car Bed.
We're still in the beginning stages of his room makeover, but we just couldn't wait to surprise him with his new bed. He had been sleeping in a toddler bed for the past several months, but we thought he could use a little more room to sprawl out at night. The Step2 Hot Wheels Toddler To Twin Race Car Bed sounded like it was going to be perfect since you can use your toddler mattress at first to help them transition to the new bed, then use a twin mattress once they get all settled or too big for their toddler mattress. There are special support boards that helps you easily convert the bed from toddler to twin. Many parents shy away from themed beds because buying two different sizes can be pricey, but Step2 has eliminated that problem with this smart solution. We decided we'd skip the toddler mattress phase and ordered a memory foam mattress for him instead (a good mattress is so important for good sleep).
I have to admit, I was a little bit afraid of the assembly when I saw the box (it was MASSIVE), but the instructions were laid out well as were all of the images, so it made assembly very simple. With my husband's help, it took a little less than 45 minutes and I had one majorly excited 3 year old!
Just look at how COOL this bed is!
My toddler went crazy when he saw this bed! There were so many cool things to look at that he didn't know what to do first. I had an inclining from our experience with his Step2 2-in-1 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor that he might go for the working tap-on headlights first and I was right. I think this is such a fun feature and especially useful for a little extra light at night. You'll need AAA batteries for this so don't forget to pick some up.
Another awesome feature? The built-in racetrack that surrounds the bed with a fun tunnel on both sides! The track goes all the way around the bed, so your child can launch a Hot Wheels on one side, around the back, and it will zoom around to the other side.

We also love that there is built-in storage on the bed. The spoiler can house 8 of your little one's favorite Hot Wheels. This has been wonderful for us because our little one loves to take his favorite toys to bed. He used to sleep with no less than 6 trains, but now he's graduated to race cars. Now, instead of sleeping on them all night, we've talked him into keeping them close by putting them on the spoiler so they can go to bed too.
Like all of Step2’s products, the Hot Wheels Toddler to Twin Race Car Bed is very solidly constructed and the colors are vibrant and eye-catching. I think it's the perfect bed for any race car fan. I know my little guy is going to love it for years to come!
As I mentioned earlier, we're just starting his room makeover and I've only tackled one small project - making him that little race car pillow sham. I simply sewed up a little red sham and used an iron-on transfer for this (I found an image for the flags online). It was super easy and it only took me about 15 minutes. I love the curtain/bedding set, I think my grandson would take the cars off the lampshade and mirror (he's borderline autistic), but the parking garage would give him lots to do while organizing his cars 🙂 The growth chart would be an interesting way to keep track of his height but again he may take the car off. All very interesting ideas 🙂

I have been looking to get a race car bed for my son and have been waiting for the corvette car bed to go on sale and when I checked today I saw the hot wheel one and my son is about hot wheels so I think this is it. I noticed in the picture it comes in two colors. Now I don't know which color to go with.
