Fairy Tales - 3D Interactive Pop-up Books App is now available! Plus, a special holiday gift!

This post may contain affiliate links. Click here for more information.

The Fairy Tales app is a collection of 8 classical fairy tales in new 3D, interactive, pop-up book. Your little reader can read at their own pace, follow along as each story is read to them, play mini games and help their favorite characters.

I've teamed up with Fairy Tales for this post. All opinions are mine.

It's no secret that my toddler loves playing with our phones and tablets. It seems almost second nature to him, and he can navigate Apple iOS, Android, and Kindle operating systems without difficulty, so we allow him "tablet time" every few days to play with apps that we carefully select. I'm so fortunate that this blog allows me to discover new, exciting apps because I doubt I'd ever be able to find some of them with the slew of apps that are available right now. Browsing through the app store is almost overwhelming at this point. While I get several app review requests a week, some just really stand out, and Fairy Tales - 3D Interactive Pop-up Books by Better World was one of them. We are really into reading and watching fairy tales, so I thought my little guy would love this newly released app.

A look at the Fairy Tails App

    Fairy Tales App

Fairy Tales - 3D Interactive Pop-up Books is a collection of eight classic fairy tales in a new 3D, interactive format, that's designed for ages 5 and under. When you first open the app, you'll see the whimsical design and the Talking Tree will greet you with a message, explaining how to navigate the app. You'll see the first 4 stories displayed in the center of the screen (you can toggle over to see the other four). The eight stories include: The Princess and the Pea (FREE), Cinderella, Goldilocks and the three bears, Mother Snow, The Enormous Turnip, The Three Little Pigs, The Three Spinners, and The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids. I've heard more stories are coming soon too.

As you can see in the photo above, the first story "The Princess and the Pea" is free and the others are "locked". You'd have to purchase those by buying "coins" within the app (parents, be sure to turn off in-app purchase in your settings before handing your phone or tablet over to your child), but these purchases are "gated" with a sequence of numbers spelled out. So, you'd have to be able to read and input those numbers in that exact order to get through the gate. I'm not normally a fan of in-app purchasing ability for kids' apps, but in this case where it's to purchase additional stories, I don't mind doing so if my child really likes the app. I've purchased many apps at this point, and as long as it's reasonably priced and educational, I'm fine with it.

Getting back to the home screen - on the upper left hand side there's a "parents only area," that's gated, and on the right hand side is the number of coins you currently have. On the bottom right-hand side of the screen is a telescope avatar that leads you to the free bonus game "Star Dust" (more on this later).

When you open each book, you can choose to have the story read to you (by one of eight professional actors), or you can choose to read yourself. I love that there are two options. My toddler likes having the stories read to him, but as he grows older he'll be able to practice his reading skills by reading the stories himself.

    Fairy Tales App

The illustrations in the story are wonderful with bright and lively colors. The stories progress as you'd expect, but every few pages a 3D, interactive story board will appear. The characters talk to one another and your child can even click on the elements of the board to make them do things (like the trees to learn more about them, and the bells to make them toll). You can even move the angle of the 3D scene. It's really cool!

    Fairy Tales App

Within the "Cinderella" story, your child can even dress Cinderella's wicked stepsisters. This scene was one of my personal favorites.

Check out this quick YouTube video to see this app in action!

The other fun features of this app include the free bonus game "Star Dust" and a daily bonus where you can earn additional coins. In Star Dust, your child will rotate the given constellation until it forms an image from popular fairy tales. It's pretty easy at first since the first few scenes show you how to move the constellation, but as it progresses it gets a bit challenging. My toddler got a bit frustrated, but older kids might not have any trouble.

    Fairy Tales App

As I mentioned, the first story, "The Princess and the Pea" is completely free, and the other seven stories are available for purchase.

Download: Apple App Store / Google Play / Amazon App Store

    What do you think?
Does your little one love playing with children's apps on your mobile devices?
Or, do you have a special device just for them?

I think it's great that the 3D Fairy Tell Book has the options of the program either reading to the child or letting the child read the book. It gives them one on one interaction which helps a child read and comprehend.

Unfortunately, my phone isn't compatible. However, I am always looking for cool apps on my phone for the kids. I used to be totally anti-phones for kids. Oh, how that has changed. Although my children do not have their own phone, they sure use mine a lot. I have to admit it comes in pretty handy on long car rides or in the doctor's office. My eleven-month-old already knows how to swipe the screen back and forth. Thanks for introducing all the cool products you come across.

How cool is that that there is the option for it to be read or be told. As the child develops reading skills, this can help them. Thanks for the info!
