I've been savoring my afternoons lately. I carefully carve out 30 minutes each day for a little "me" time while my daughter is napping and right before we have to pick up my son from preschool. There's finally a chill in the air and it's perfect weather to enjoy a warm cup of tea and a little afternoon snack. Since my day normally starts at 5:30 AM (thank you toddlers), an afternoon pick-me-up is definitely in order and well-deserved. I've got strict rules for my "tea time" - no kids, no cleaning, no work. It's just time to relax, reflect and enjoy.
My mom used to prepare hot tea for us in the afternoons after school and it was a nice way to connect and tell her about my day. Now that I'm in charge of buying and preparing the tea myself, I really like Pure Leaf brand. Pure Leaf teas are simply made from real tea leaves, picked at their freshest and purposefully crafted to deliver a genuine tea experience. Their leaves are grown at some of the finest-quality Rainforest Alliance Certified tea estates in India, Kenya, Indonesia and Sri Lanka that are committed to sustainability.
Pure Leaf Bagged and Loose Teas are available at most grocery stores. The bagged and loose teas are a blend of quality long-leaf teas made with real fruit pieces, petals and herbs. I am currently obsessed with the Chai Tea. These little pyramid shaped tea bags are the perfect blend of spices and taste so good on their own or mixed with a little honey. Since my daughter is an vanilla almond milk drinker and we always have a few gallons on hand, I decided I'd try my hand at making a vanilla chai latte... and it was AMAZING. Seriously, I can't believe I can make these at home!
Vanilla Chai Tea Latte Recipe
To make my homemade vanilla chai tea latte, I used my trusty Blendtec blender, although I believe you can do this with any blender as long as it will rotate fast enough. I poured 12 ounces of vanilla almond milk into the blender and pressed the "soup" setting for a total of 4 cycles (50 seconds each cycle). By the end, the milk was steamed to perfection and I had a good amount foam. I added a Pure Leaf Chai Tea bag to the warm milk and let it steep for 5 minutes. I also added a dash of cinnamon to the top. It was so easy! I love that this chai tea latte recipe is dairy free, but you could also use regular milk and add a teaspoon of vanilla extract for the same effect.
