Baltic Amber is a fossilized resin found in the Baltic Region, primarily in Lithuania. It contains 3-8% of Succinic Acid, long prized for its medicinal qualities. Amazingly, the highest content of the healing Succinic Acid is found in the EXTERNAL layer of the Baltic Amber.
Europeans greatly prize beautiful Baltic Amber for its claimed 100% natural anti-inflammatory, pain relieving, and calming properties for babies and toddlers. The healing oils (Succinic Acid) of the Baltic Amber are said to relieve teething pain, tame baby’s irritability, and relieve inflammation in the throat, ear, and stomach. Authentic Baltic Amber is also used as an anti-toxic and anti-bacterial agent, for headaches, for skin irritations, for bronchial conditions, and for throat and thyroid conditions (along with many other uses).
Baltic Amber is very light-weight, making Baltic Amber jewelry extremely comfortable to wear for both children and adults.
Last month my mother had the opportunity to review a Spark of Amber Raw Baltic Amber bracelet and she thought it helped relieve her arthritis pain. The Baltic Amber bracelet I have for the wubba does seem to help him as well so I was excited to receive a Baltic Amber Nuggets Baby Teething Necklace from Spark of Amber for review.
The Spark of Amber necklace arrived packaged in a gold drawstring bag, perfect for gift giving or keeping your jewelry safe while traveling. The necklace I received is called ‘The Midnight“ and represents the beauty and calmness of midnight. The necklace is made of Baltic Amber pieces that are polished for a more finished shine, but left in their natural “nugget” shapes, so little ones will get the most benefit from them. These amber nuggets come straight from Lithuania so you can feel confident you’re getting authentic Baltic Amber from a reputable retailer like Spark of Amber.
Each necklace is hand-crafted and inspected throughly before shipping. Spark of Amber carefully strings each nugget on heavy thread and double knots between each one for added safety. The necklace also features a screw clasp to make it more secure. Since each bead is unique, every necklace will be one of a kind.
The necklace is approximately 13” long and it’s perfectly sized for my little guy. He’s just over 12 months old in the photos below. I don’t typically let him wear his Baltic Amber while swimming or in the bath, but this was a particular fussy day so I left it in place.
I know a lot of moms let their little ones wear their Baltic Amber necklaces at all times, but as per Spark of Amber’s recommendations, I only leave the wubba’s necklace on when I’m able to supervise him. I always take the necklace off at bath time since I don’t want soaps or other materials coating the beads since that will interfere with their ability to work, then I leave it off for the night.
I’d also like to mention that these necklaces are recommended for ages 3 and up according to U.S. legislation due to their small parts and pieces. My little guy is only one, but I feel okay about him wearing it since the thread is heavy-duty and it’s double knotted between each bead. If for some reason the thread were to break, all but one or two of the bead would remain in place on the strand of thread. Also, as I mentioned earlier, I only let him wear it while I’m directly supervising him.
Overall, I think Baltic Amber works. I’m not exactly sure how, but I do feel my little guy is less fussy and less irritable when he’s wearing his Baltic Amber necklace. The Spark of Amber necklace I received is well-made and very fashionable too! The wubba gets lots of compliments on his stylish necklace while we’re out and about. I’d definitely recommend Spark of Amber for your Baltic Amber needs.
